I read the whole Blog post that's how I got the info. What I meant was that maybe most like Blu-ray for real graphical effects instead of regular flics. That's where you really would say wow! I mean a classic like Unforgiven and of course The Godfather are essentially some of the best movies ever made imo, but for effects like in a Transformer or Avatar movie Blu-ray will smoke them. I could just imagine a Kung Fu flic in Blu-ray.

Matter of fact are there any Kung Fu movies in Blu-ray? Apart from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon? I have about most of all Jackie Chan's and Jet Li's collections as well as the older classics on DVD.

      Stats:

For the week ending 2nd May 2010, here are the stats:

      Percentage of revenue:
      Blu-ray vs DVD: 15.41% vs 84.59%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $32.47 million
DVD sales total spending: $178.23 million

You can read the latest digital edition of HMM (May 10 - 16 Issue) with the above stats here:

      Top 10:

This week is still very much about Avatar, and early news suggest that next week will be similar as well.

Avatar is still doing extremely well compared to all the other titles, outselling the number two title It's Complicated by more than a 16:1 margin.

In third place was The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, 29:1 behind Avatar.

The catalog release Tombstone was 5th, just ahead of the other new to Blu-ray catalog release, Armageddon.

The rest of the top 10 were previously released titles, including places for two oldie buy goodie Blu-ray releases, Iron Man and The Dark Knight.

Here's the complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold):

      1. Avatar
      2. It's Complicated
      3. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
      4. Sherlock Holmes
      5. Tombstone
      6. Armageddon
      7. Iron Man
      8. Toy Story
      9. The Blind Side
      10. The Dark Knight

      Market Share:

Avatar's market share remains at a high 41.55%, dropping slightly compared to last week's 48.8%. Of the new releases, It's Complicated wasn't even in the top 20, meaning it's market share was below 23.62%. The top 20 market share charts is becoming a bit more useless as more and more titles are on Blu-ray and the chance that a sale of 20 titles could see the chart completed dominated by these titles, for example. It would be much better if all new releases had their market share listed, regardless of their position.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus was listed though, at 9th place and with 36.09% market share. Both Tombstone and Armageddon were not concurrent Blu-ray/DVD releases, meaning that there was no new DVD edition to go along with the new Blu-ray version, and so no market share data is available for these titles (or if they were available, they would simply be 100%, or comparing it to a non comparable DVD edition with a similarly large market share number).

Planet Earth was the week's top market share entry, with 70.65%, and ranking 13th in the Blu-ray sales charts. I promise this will be the last time I [s]talk[/s] rant about the LOTR trilogy, but this is actually a good title to compare to Lord of the Rings, since both are priced higher than your normal Blu-ray movie. But Planet Earth, a 3 year old documentary release, ranked 4 places higher than the blockbuster and box office hits, not to mention Oscar winning, LOTR movies, a title that's only a month old BTW. Avatar outsold the entire LOTR trilogy by a 112:1 margin this week.

It's another one of those rare weeks where both DVD and Blu-ray sales were higher than the same week a year ago, entirely caused by Avatar of course. DVD sales increased 15.42%, while Blu-ray sales increased by 115.18%. In money terms, DVD sales increased by $23.81 million, while Blu-ray revenue increased by $17.38 million, an overall gain of $41.19 million in combined revenue.

Blu-ray's market share grew by just over 113% year on year.

My reasoning was warped. Doesn't have to be Special Effects Movie!

As for Unforgiven, and other classic movies, I think these can look stunning on Blu-ray, probably the best they've ever been, and the effect is usually more noticeable than say a recent movie, which all look nice and clean and sharp, even on DVD. As long as studios put in the effort to properly remaster the films, they will look great on Blu-ray, and you will spot an amazing amount of differences if you compare it to the DVD version. Some people may not like the grain or color differences compared to recent movies, but that's how these classic films were filmed and how they were meant to be seen.

Here's the review of Unforgiven on Blu-ray, with screen captures, so you can judge for yourself:

Unforgiven Blu-ray Release Date October 31, 2006. Blu-ray reviews, news, specs, ratings, screenshots. Cheap Blu-ray movies and deals.

        Or The Godfather restorations:

The Godfather: Part II Blu-ray Release Date February 2, 2010 (Sapphire Series). Blu-ray reviews, news, specs, ratings, screenshots. Cheap Blu-ray movies and deals.

It's just a shame they didn't put the same amount of effort into Lord of the Rings movies, as otherwise it would be must buy.
Well when you're wrong it's best to admit it. I thought it was only best to get Blu-ray movies for the special effects flics. After seeing these screenshots it doesn't matter. World of difference.

I'll be adding these to my collection, especially the Godfather Trilogy!

Is Blu-ray.com the official Blu-ray site for such reviews etc...?

Blu-ray.com isn't the official site, but it's a good resource for reviews (and for non US Blu-ray buyers, region coding status).

            Stats:

For the week ending 9th May 2010, here are the stats:

            Percentage of revenue:
            Blu-ray vs DVD: 11.96% vs 88.04%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $21.50 million
DVD sales total spending: $158.32 million

            Top 10:

Avatar wins top spot for the third week running, easily outselling the number two title, Saving Private Ryan, which has since been recalled due to an audio glitch with the disc. While Avatar's lead isn't as commanding as in previous weeks, it still outsold Saving Private Ryan by more than a 4 to 1 margin.

The week's other new releases in the top 10 include Tooth Fairy at 3rd and Nine at, incidentally, 9th.

The rest of the top 10 were previously released titles, including once again both Iron Man and The Dark Knight, the latter of which has been reduced to under $10 at Amazon.

The lack of A-list releases and the Avatar effect waning meant that overall Blu-ray market share retreated back to just under 12%.

Here's the complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold):

            1. Avatar
            2. Saving Private Ryan
            3. Tooth Fairy
            4. Iron Man
            5. It's Complicated
            6. The Dark Knight
            7. Sherlock Holmes
            8. Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel
            9. Nine
            10. The Blind Side

            Market Share:

As mentioned earlier, Blu-ray market share retreated from the last two week's highs of 22% and 15%, back to a more "normal" 12%.

Avatar's market share remains at a high 39.68%, dropping slightly compared to last week.

Of the new releases, Saving Private Ryan was not a concurrent Blu-ray/DVD release, so there are no figures for it. Tooth Fairy was not in the top 10, and figures showed that it received a Blu-ray market share just under 12.58%, which would make it below average in terms of sales on Blu-ray.

Nine did make it to the top 20, at 12th and with 18.02% market share.

The week's highest ranked title by market share was The Dark Knight.

While the classic Doctor Zhivago did not make the top 10 sales charts, ranking only 14th, it did make the top 20 market share charts at a high 2nd place with 47.20%. Which shows that classics, while may not sell in great numbers on Blu-ray, will sell better comparatively than the DVD edition.

              Top 10:

Avatar wins top spot for the fourth week running, but it's lead, while still commanding, has been cut with this week's number two title, Legion, selling one copy for every 1.57 copies of Avatar sold.

Edge of Darkness was third, while the other new release for the week in the top 10 was Daybreakers in 4th.

The rest of the top 10 were previously released titles, including once again both Iron Man and The Dark Knight.

Three new releases all in top four helped Blu-ray increase market share compared to last week.

Here's the complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold):

              1. Avatar
              2. Legion
              3. Edge of Darkness
              4. Daybreakers
              5. Iron Man
              6. Toy Story
              7. Toy Story 2
              8. The Dark Knight
              9. Sherlock Holmes
              10. Star Trek

              Market Share:

Avatar's market share remains at a high 39.40%, practically unchanged from last week. Star Trek was the top ranked title by market share, recording a high 75.13%.

Of the week's new releases, Legion got 33.31%. Edge of Darkness was on 30.20% while Daybreakers had 31.88%. All three results are quite respectable, and the 30% mark seems to be the new average benchmark in terms of first week Blu-ray market share for new releases.

              DVD: $187.96 million
Another rare week, but one where both DVD and Blu-ray sales dropped compared to the same time last year. Taken and Underworld: Rise of the Lycans were the title that helped Blu-ray sales this time last year, but only the four week old Avatar can be comparable for the same week this year. But while revenue dropped, Blu-ray market share still increased thanks to the DVD revenue drop being greater than the Blu-ray one.

DVD sales dropped by $64.49m (34.31%), while Blu-ray sales decreased by $4.57m (19.29%), producing an overall loss of $69.06 million in combined revenue.

Blu-ray's market share grew from 11.19% to 13.41% (a growth of just under 20%).

DVD sales total spending: $112.37 million

HMM did not publish an online issue this week due to Memorial Day in the US.

                Top 10:

Avatar again wins top spot for Blu-ray sales, now for the fifth week running. Avatar it is no longer the top selling title for all home video sales, which this week belongs to Valentine's Day, which was also second on Blu-ray. Avatar outsold Valentine's Day by a 2.4 to 1 margin on Blu-ray, despite Avatar falling behind the same title on the total home video sales charts, indicating the Blu-ray market share for Valentine's Day wasn't that high (more on that later).

Of this week's new releases in the Blu-ray top 10, Invictus was third and The Spy Next Door was 8th.

The rest of the top 10 were previously released titles, including once again both Iron Man and The Dark Knight. The lack of A-list releases, most likely trying to avoid Avatar, and with Valentine's Day not aimed at the core Blu-ray demographic, it all meant that overall Blu-ray market share dropped to the lowest level since March 14th.

Here's the complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold):

                1. Avatar
                2. Valentine's Day
                3. Invictus
                4. Legion
                5. Toy Story
                6. Edge of Darkness
                7. The Dark Knight
                8. The Spy Next Door
                9. Toy Story 2
                10. Iron Man

                Market Share:

While Avatar's market share was still 39%, Valentine's Day only recorded 14%, which is why when including all home video sales, Valentine's Day beat Avatar by a small margin, while on Blu-ray, Avatar comfortably beat Valentine's Day. Blu-ray is doing well and heading in the right direction to become the dominant home video format, but there are still certain genres that does considerably worse than others on the format, and romantic comedies is one of them. It is a weakness of HD in general that there's less need for it for certain titles than others, but HD equipment is now standard at shops, and so HD movies, whether the titles "need" them or not, will become standard soon.

The Spy Next Door managed 18%, again below average for Blu-ray these days - I posted last week that 30% seems to be the new norm. Invictus got closer to this new "norm" with 24%.

                Year to Year Comparison

The stats for the week ending 24th May 2009 (click to see analysis) are as follows.

                DVD: $178.53 million
Again, both DVD and Blu-ray sales were down compared to the same week last year. That same week last year was still on a high thanks to Taken and the then newly released Valkyrie, and was a small peak for the first part of 2009. Whereas this week is definitely one of the poorer weeks of 2010, with the five week old Avatar leading. The revenue drop did not translate to a drop in Blu-ray market share though, which still managed an increase, although a very very small one from a historical point of view (actually, historically the lowest week to week growth figure since I started posting comparisons back in May 2009).

I think studios have been far too cautious in releasing titles to compete against Avatar, because if you add the combined revenue for weeks since Avatar's release, it actually results only in a net gain of only $10.87m compared to the same period last year. For the same period, Blu-ray sales rose $59.15m (most of this occurring in the week Avatar was released), so this means DVD sales actually dropped $48.28m during the same period (most of this occurring in the last two weeks).

For this week, DVD sales dropped by $66.16m (37.06%), while Blu-ray sales decreased by $5.79m (27.68%), producing an overall loss of $71.95 million in combined revenue, which is actually up on last week's already poor week-to-week loss of $69.06 million.

Blu-ray's market share grew from 10.49% to 11.87% (a growth of just over 13%).

                  Stats:

For the week ending 30th May 2010, here are the stats:

                  Percentage of revenue:
                  Blu-ray vs DVD: 10.12% vs 89.88%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $14.41 million
DVD sales total spending: $127.95 million

You can read the latest digital edition of HMM (June 7 - 13 Issue) with the above stats here:

                  Top 10:

Avatar is finally off the number one spot. In the end, it was an unlikely title that managed this feat, this week's number one, True Blood: Season 2. Avatar was second, very very closely behind and really could have still sneaked into first place with a bit of luck.

Dear John was third, but only really selling half as many copies as Avatar or True Blood: S2. The Road was fourth, and that ends the new releases in the top 10.

Overall, Blu-ray sales and market share remain disappointing. While the recent new releases hasn't been the same calibre as say Avatar or The Dark Knight, there are a lot more high profiles release on Blu-ray than the same time last year, but Blu-ray sales have no increased in as big a manner as say 2009 compared to 2008. But that was always to be expected, that Blu-ray's growth rate would slow and I think we're in a phase where the initial excitement over Blu-ray, the early adopter phase, is over, and the mainstream take-up phase starts, slowly at first. Of course, there is the distinct possibility that while Blu-ray will supplement DVDs, it may never replace it completely. If anything, I think studios would prefer this scenario much more than if Blu-ray took on all of DVD's properties, including the ever shrinking margins. If Blu-ray can exist as a "premium" product to supplement the "budget" DVD, than the studios will be very happy indeed. The advent of 3D Blu-ray will further bolster the idea of Blu-ray as a premium product that consumers have to/want to pay more for.

Here's the complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold):

                  1. True Blood: Season 2
                  2. Avatar
                  3. Dear John
                  4. The Road
                  5. Toy Story
                  6. Toy Story 2
                  7. Legion
                  8. Invictus
                  9. Saving Private Ryan
                  10. The Dark Knight

                  Market Share:

Of the new releases, the top ranked one is The Road, at 33.85%, maintaining the 30+% average market share of new releases. Dear John did less impressively, at only 11%, which again highlights the selective shopping habits of Blu-ray owners, preferring certain titles over others on the HD format.

True Blood: S2 got 21.34%, but that's good considering it was a more expensive box set.

Avatar's market share actually increased to 40.30% compared to last week.

Overall Blu-ray market share dropped to 10% compared to last week's 11%, only 0.03 percentage points above the recent low set in the week ending March 14.

                  DVD: $147.14 million
Breaking the recent trend, Blu-ray "finally" recorded a weekly result that was higher than the same week a year ago, albeit by almost negligible margins.

For this week, DVD sales dropped by $19.19m (13.04%), while Blu-ray sales increased by $0.35m (2.49%), producing an overall loss of $18.84 million in combined revenue. This is the "best" week in the last few, in terms of losses.

Blu-ray's market share grew from 8.72% to 10.12% (a growth of just over 16%).

Here's a graph showing the slowing down of Blu-ray growth (the graph starts in May 2009, comparing to May 2008, right to the last analysed week of May 30th 2010).

Note that growth is a very misleading type of stat. Because Blu-ray going from 0.1% to 1% is a 900% increase, while going from 1% to 5% is "only" a 400% increase, and 5% to 10% is only a 100% increase, and so on.

                      Stats:

For the week ending 6th June 2010, here are the stats:

                      Percentage of revenue:
                      Blu-ray vs DVD: 18.32% vs 81.68%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $37.71 million
DVD sales total spending: $168.15 million

You can read the latest digital edition of HMM (June 14 - 20 Issue) with the above stats here:

                      Top 10:

Finally an A-List release and Blu-ray numbers are back to the highs set towards the end of 2009 and the beginning of 2010. Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland was easily this week's top selling title and helped push Blu-ray to a 2010 high, the Avatar release week apart.

It easily outsold the number two title, also a new release, The Wolfman, by more than a 5 to 1 margin.

Avatar was further behind in third place.

Following the success of the BBC's Planet Earth, Life managed a high 4th place (considering the fact that it is a documentary, and that it is priced higher than normal releases).

The rest of the top 10 were all for previously released titles, including both Toy Story movies, both of which refuses to leave the top 10.

Here's the complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold):

                      1. Alice in Wonderland
                      2. The Wolfman
                      3. Avatar
                      4. Life
                      5. True Blood: Season 2
                      6. Toy Story
                      7. Tombstone
                      8. Toy Story 2
                      9. The Road
                      10. Dear John

                      Market Share:

Alice in Wonderland managed a first week market share of 37.45%, above The Wolfman's 32.36%. Both results are quite credible, although not as high as say the likes of Star Trek or Avatar (Avatar is still doing just below 40%).

But it was the BBC's Life documentary that was top of the market share charts, with 54.4%, meaning more people brought this shot-in-HD documentary on Blu-ray than on DVD. It isn't surprising though, given how well Planet Earth has sold on Blu-ray.

Of the new releases, the top ranked one is The Road, at 33.85%, maintaining the 30+% average market share of new releases. Dear John did less impressively, at only 11%, which again highlights the selective shopping habits of Blu-ray owners, preferring certain titles over others on the HD format.

As mentioned earlier, all of these titles helped Blu-ray's overall market share to push to a 2010 high, but only if you exclude the week Avatar was released.

                      DVD: $159.10 million
From both DVD and Blu-ray revenue down compared to a year ago, as has been the norm in the last couple of weeks, we go to the other extreme of having both format sell more than a year ago.

For this week, DVD sales increased modestly by $9.05m (5.69%), while Blu-ray sales increased by a more substantial $21.68m (135.25%), producing an overall gain of $30.73 million in combined revenue.

Blu-ray's market share grew from 9.15% to 18.32% (a growth of just over 100%), which shows just how important A-list releases are.

                        Stats:

For the week ending 13th June 2010, here are the stats:

                        Percentage of revenue:
                        Blu-ray vs DVD: 13.66% vs 86.34%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $19.52 million
DVD sales total spending: $123.36 million

Stats seems to be missing from the latest issue of HMM, but it's posted on the home page of HMM here:

www.HomeMediaMagazine.com covers breaking news about the home entertainment industry. News on Blu-ray, high-definition, electronic delivery, TV DVD, and video games, including studios and retailer news, industry event photos, polls, commentary & information.

                        Top 10:

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland is still this week's number one title, but second place Shutter Island has decreased the margin between first and second.

From Paris with Love got third.

Avatar remained in the top 5, finishing fourth this week, ahead of last week's number two, The Wolfman.

The rest of the top 10 were all previously released titles.

Here's the complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold):

                        1. Alice in Wonderland
                        2. Shutter Island
                        3. From Paris with Love
                        4. Avatar
                        5. The Wolfman
                        6. Life
                        7. The Hurt Locker
                        8. 2012
                        9. Zombieland
                        10. The Hangover

                        Market Share:

As there were only two new releases in the top 10, and neither managed to get close to last week's number one, Alice in Wonderland, overall Blu-ray market share naturally fell compared to last week's almost 2010 high (that pesky Avatar ensuring Alice didn't break any records).

Further explaining the market share drop, Shutter Island's Blu-ray market share was "only" 27.46%, with From Paris with Love only doing a little bit better at 27.75%. Both are below the 30% expected of Blu-ray hit releases in the first week (Alice in Wonderland got 37.45% last week, and let's not even talk about Avatar).

Zombieland had the most Blu-ray market share this week, with 72.41%, possibly explained by the price drop that occurred during the week, and now selling at $14.99 compared to the previous price range of $24.99 to $27.99. Ditto for 2012 (the single disc edition anyway), second on the charts with 69% market share.

                        DVD: $188.59 million
Another "bad" week where both Blu-ray and DVD sales dropped compared to the same time last year (and with DVD dropping much more than Blu-ray). But last time this year, the Blu-ray hit Gran Torino led all the charts, and there's nothing comparable this week.

For this week, DVD sales decreased by $65.23m (34.59%), while Blu-ray sales decreased by a negligible $0.4m (2%), producing an overall loss of $65.63 million in combined revenue.

Blu-ray's market share grew from 9.55% to 13.66% (a growth of just over 43%), which is not bad when comparing one of last year's hit releases with a week with no major hit releases. It's a shame that DVD revenue is not keeping up.

                          Top 10:

The Book of Eli was the week's top selling title, and was the week's only new release in the top 10. Avatar was in a distant second place, and the last two week's number one, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, dropped to third place.

The rest of the top 10 were all previously released titles.

Here's the complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold):
                          1. The Book of Eli
                          2. Avatar
                          3. Alice in Wonderland
                          4. Shutter Island
                          5. 2012
                          6. From Paris with Love
                          7. Law Abiding Citizen
                          8. Sherlock Holmes
                          9. Life
                          10. Zombieland

                          Market Share:

Despite the lack of new releases in the top 10, the one single release and the host of recently discounted previous hits helped Blu-ray to record an overall market share increase this week.

The Book of Eli managed 35.18%, which is good enough for a title of this caliber and genre. But titles like 2012 (78.75%), Zombieland (58.14%) and Law Abiding Citizen (50.77%) all helped to push market share higher (14.4% compared to last week's 13.7%)

The July 4th long weekend affected the posting of the data, so here it is a week later ...

                            Stats:

For the week ending 27th June 2010, here are the stats:

                            Percentage of revenue:
                            Blu-ray vs DVD: 11.83% vs 88.17%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $15.03 million
DVD sales total spending: $112.07 million

You can read the latest digital edition of HMM (July 5 - July 11 Issue) with the above stats here:

                            Top 10:

The Book of Eli was still the week's top selling title, despite a challenge from Green Zone, which finished in a close second.

She's Out of My League was the next highest ranked new to the week release at 7th, while Entourage: Season Six was just a rank below.

The rest of the top 10 were all previously released titles, including the first two Toy Story movies, Avatar and Alice in Wonderland.

Here's the complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold):
                            1. The Book of Eli
                            2. Green Zone
                            3. Toy Story
                            4. Toy Story 2
                            5. Avatar
                            6. Alice in Wonderland
                            7. She's Out of My League
                            8. Entourage: The Complete Sixth Season
                            9. Shutter Island
                            10. Life

                            Market Share:

Blu-ray market share fell compared to last week despite three new releases in the top 10. Green Zone recorded a market share of less than 30%, so this is below average of recent releases. She's Out of My League did even less well at 20%. In fact, the highest market share recorded this week is "only" 47.41%, so this explains the slight drop in market share, compared to 78.75% for 2012 last week.

The Book of Eli's market share was 31.08%, down compared to last week. Avatar continues to hold a 40+% market share.

                              Top 10:

The week's top title is Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, easily out pacing second place Hot Tub Time Machine. And there was room for another new release in the top 3 with The Crazies.

The rest of the top 10 were all the usual suspects from recent top 10's.

Here's the complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold):
                              1. Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
                              2. Hot Tub Time Machine
                              3. The Crazies
                              4. Avatar
                              5. The Book of Eli
                              6. Green Zone
                              7. Toy Story 2
                              8. Toy Story
                              9. Shutter Island

                              Market Share:

Blu-ray market share again fell compared to last week, even though the top 3 were all new releases. The main reason could be because the top selling title, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, only managed 25% market share. Hot Tub Time Machine did better, but at 27.79%, was still well below the 40+% record set by recent blockbusters. At least The Crazies managed over 30%, with 31.69%.

Life was the week's top ranked Blu-ray title by market share with 45.49%, also below the high market share figures set by other recent number 1's. Avatar once again remained above 40% market share, suggesting it will be very difficult for other titles to beat Avatar's dominance for some time yet.

                                Top 10:

Another quiet week in which both Blu-ray and DVD sales dropped compared to the previous week, however, Blu-ray apparently dropped a bit more than DVD, which is unusual, and this ensured that Blu-ray's overall market share dropped slightly.

Brooklyn's Finest was top of the sales charts, supplanting last week's number one, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, which fell to second place.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was the only other top 10 ranked new release, at fifth, with the rest of the top 10 being previously released titles.

The rest of the top 10 were all the usual suspects from recent top 10's.

Here's the complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold):
                                1. Brooklyn's Finest

                                3. Hot Tub Time Machine
                                4. Avatar
                                5. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
                                6. The Book of Eli
                                7. Alice in Wonderland
                                8. The Crazies
                                9. Green Zone
                                10. Toy Story 2

                                Market Share:

As mentioned above, Blu-ray's market share fell due to the lack of A-list new releases. The week's top selling Blu-ray movie, Brooklyn's Finest, "only" managed a market share result of 25.38% (8th in the market share charts), so it was well below the 30+% expected of hit new releases. The week's only other new release in the top 10, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo did better at 27.67% (4th place), but still below 30%.

Avatar continues to sell above 40%, and was this week's number one title for Blu-ray market share. BBC's Life continues to do well too at 42.52%, following the trend set by BBC's other "natural fit for Blu-ray" documentary, Planet Earth.

While not in the top 10 for sales, A Single Man (#14 in sales) was also another of the week's new releases, and it got only 21.03% (#17 in market share). With that said, 21% is much higher than what it would have gotten in the past for a title in this genre.

                                DVD: $145.03 million
For this week, DVD sales decreased by $35.92m (down 24.77%), while Blu-ray sales also decreased, by $3.39m (down 20.98%), producing an overall loss of $39.31 million in combined revenue. The week from last year has relatively good releases in Knowing and Push, which explains the comparative drop in sales for the same week this year.

                                Blu-ray's market share grew from 10.03% to 10.48% (a growth of 4.49%).
