Top 10:
Blu-ray market share came within a whisker of going over the 30% mark, as DVD revenue also rose compared to last week.
The single title responsible for this upswing is Django Unchained. This isn't a total surprise, but what may be slightly surprising is the fact that this was the only new release in the Blu-ray top 10 for this week. As a result, it outsold the second placed The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey by nearly a 12:1 ratio.
Two other new releases made the combined Blu-ray and DVD top 20, but not the Blu-ray top 10. The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia was 13th and 14th on the combined and Blu-ray only charts. A Monster in Paris was 20th on the combined chart, but didn't make it into the Blu-ray top 20.
So one big new release, and pretty much nothing else, was what the week was all about.
The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, and Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *):
Blu-ray Share:
Django Unchained did very well on BD compared to DVD, with a BD sales share of 54.29%, meaning only 45.71% of people purchased the DVD only edition of this movie.
A Monster in Paris got 24%, while The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia had 23%.
None were available on Blu-ray 3D.
