Top 10:

Blu-ray sales rose compared to the previous week thanks to the release of Jumanji: The Next Level, which topped the Blu-ray sales chart quite easily. The Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle/The Next Level double movie pack finished in 7th.

The other new releases didn't do as well, with Superman: Red Son coming closest, finishing in 3rd place.

Richard Jewell was in 8th, while the Blu-ray exclusive release One Piece: Stampede finished outside of the top 10 in 17th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Both 'Jumanji: The Next Level' and 'Superman: Red Son' got UHD editions. 7 titles in this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

Out of this week's previously mentioned new releases, 'Superman: Red Son' had the best BD sales share - 83.64%.

'Jumanji: The Next Level' was the next best with 57.12%, while 'Richard Jewell' just managed to get over the 50% hurdle with 51.18%.

On 4K, 'Superman: Red Son' had a UHD sales share of 11.17%, while 'Jumanji: The Next Level' got 10.40%.

Blu-ray: $42.67 million

The new Jumanji movie was up against both 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' and 'Mary Poppins Returns', so not much of a contest really. So yep, another "all red week".

Blu-ray sales decreased by $17.54m (down 41.1%), with unit sales down 36.5%.

DVD sales decreased by $6.69m (down 18.3%), with unit sales down 16.6%.

This meant $24.23 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share decreased from 53.85% to 45.68%.

Top 10:

Despite the release of critical favourite 1917, Blu-ray revenue fell compared to recent weeks as sales of 'Frozen II' started to slow.

The only other release in the top 20 was The Grudge: The Untold Chapter, coming in at 10th.

It was 'Aquaman' vs '1917', and the superhero movie that was released the same week last year won in the end easily. An "all red" week was unescapable.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $22.85m (down 52.4%), with unit sales down 50.5%.

DVD sales decreased by $14.58m (down 36.7%), with unit sales down 29.8%.

This meant $37.43 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share decreased from 53.33% to 45.22%.

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue rose above $30 million for the week again thanks to a big release: Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker.

It easily outsold everything in its wake, including last week's number one '1917' by almost a 10-to-1 margin.

In 4th place was Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga - 9-Movie Collection and the Star Wars theme continued with the 4K re-release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, coming in 14th place.

The Current War: Director’s Cut rounded off the top 20 at 20th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Both the new Star Wars movie and the 9 movie collection were available on UHD. 9 titles in this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

'Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker' got a huge BD sales share, 78.72%, and its 4K edition did equally well with a UHD sales share of 24.22%.

'The Current War' got a BD sales share of 53.15%.

Blu-ray: $35.30 million
DVD: $39.21 million

While Blu-ray revenue was still down compared to the same week last year when 'Bumblebee' was released, it was only down slightly.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $0.46m (down 1.3%), with unit sales down 17.1%.

DVD sales decreased by $11.76m (down 30.0%), with unit sales down 26.3%.

This meant $12.22 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share increased from 47.38% to 55.93%.

Top 10:

This year's pre-Easter sales bump pretty much did not eventuate, with sales actually falling compared to the last week. The effect of the COVID-19 lockdown, perhaps, finally visible clearly on the sales figures.

Last year's pre-Easter week happened a little later (the week ending April 20, 2019), but it brought $35.81m in Blu-ray sales and $74.82m in total sales. This year, this is down to $23.90m and $50.57m respectively.

And it's not due to releasing either, as while the film business grinds to a half, the current batch of new releases are all from pre-outbreak times and we won't be seeing the lull in new releases until a couple of months down the track.

As such, Dolittle was the best selling new release for the week, coming in at a distant 2nd place behind last week's number one, 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker'.

Little Women, the next new release, was in 3rd place while the much-maligned Cats was in 7th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Only 'Dolittle' was available on UHD. 8 titles in this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

It was actually 'Cats' that had the best BD sales share, with 55.49%. 'Little Women' was next with 55.30% and 'Dolittle' wasn't too much behind with 52.60%.

On 4K, 'Dolittle' managed a UHD sales share of 6%.

This mid-outbreak pre-Easter week actually did less well than a week in which "A Dog’s Way Home" was the top-selling new release exactly a year ago. That says something!

Blu-ray sales decreased by $2.95m (down 11.0%), with unit sales down 13.2%.

DVD sales decreased by $7.09m (down 21.0%), with unit sales down 20.2%.

This meant $10.04 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share increased from 44.30% to 47.26%.

Top 10:

The post-Easter lull is upon us, and sales this year were largely comparable to the previous year.

There were a couple of new releases too, but they weren't the most popular titles. The most popular new release was Underwater in 6th place, followed by Just Mercy in 7th.

We described last year's post-Easter lull (happening during the week ending April 27, 2019) as "one of the worst in terms of sales", but Blu-ray revenue managed to go even lower this year, albeit only slightly. DVD revenue actually rose for some reason.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $16.51m (down 46.0%), with unit sales down 47.0%.

DVD sales decreased by $11.3m (down 29.0%), with unit sales down 26.7%.

This meant $27.81 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share decreased from 47.94% to 41.19%.

Top 10:

A big A-list release coupled with a couple of other minor releases helped to lift Blu-ray sales slightly for the week ending April 25, 2020.

Bad Boys for Life was that A-list release, easily beating everything else in its wake, include 'The Rise of Skywalker'.

The Bad Boys 3-Movie Collection also sold well, coming in at 6th.

There were four other new releases in the top 10. The Gentlemen (trailer) came 3rd, just ahead of Ip Man 4: The Finale in 4th.

Like a Boss got a 10th place finish, while The Last Full Measure (trailer).

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: 'Bad Boys for Life' (not the 3 movie collection), 'The Gentlemen' and 'Ip Man 4: The Finale' were all made available on UHD. 7 titles in this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

This meant $5.22 million more in combined revenue for the week.

Top 10:

New release Bloodshot was the week's top-selling title in another week where Blu-ray revenue hovered around the $20 million mark.

Two more new releases were in the top 10, with I Still Believe in 3rd and Gretel & Hansel in 8th.

And that was it for new releases. The COVID-19 inspired lull in releases is just around the corner, so expect new releases to be far and few in between until the summer movies like Tenet and Mulan, if they don't get cancelled first, arrives on disc later in the year.

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue rose slightly compared to last week thanks to the release of Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn. It outsold the number two best-selling title on Blu-ray, another new release, The Call of the Wild, by almost a 3-to-1 margin.

The Walmart exclusive 'Birds of Prey/Suicide Squad 2-Movie Collection' was also in the top 20, at 16th.

The only other new release in the top 20 was Fantasy Island in 16th place.

Sales are up compared to the same week last year, mainly because 'Birds of Prey' was a much bigger release than 'Cold Pursuit'!

Blu-ray sales decreased by $2.5m (up 12.8%), with unit sales up 5%.

DVD sales increased by $4.78m (up 18.5%), with unit sales up 16.6%.

This meant $7.28 million more in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share decreased from 43.02% to 41.82%.

Top 10:

Sonic the Hedgehog was the top seller for the week ending May 23, 2020, and it will be one of the last big releases for a while due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was joined by Onward (trailer), which wasn't too far behind in second place.

Another new release, Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, was in third place.

'Promare' actually had the best BD sales share out of all of this week's new releases, with 93.17%. The re-release of 'Top Gun', naturally, also had a good sales share of 74.00%.

'Onward' got 67.86%, while 'Sonic the Hedgehog' managed 61.86%.

'The Way Back' got 44.79%, while 'Emma.' had a BD sales share of 41%.

'Birds of Prey' had the best BD sales share of the new releases, with 64.44%.

For the trio of UHD releases, 'Top Gun' got a UHD sales share of 46.64%, while 'Sonic the Hedgehog' got 13.76%. 'Justice League Dark: Apokolips War' got 10.76%.

Top 10:

Only a single new release in the top 20 this week (the COVID-19 inspired dry spell in terms of movie releases has started), with The Invisible Man just missing out on top spot, behind last week's number one 'Sonic the Hedgehog'.

An "all red" week in which every metric below was worse off when compared to the same week a year ago. That week wasn't a big week in terms of new releases either, with the only release in the top 10 being 'Outlander: Season Four'. A combination of the long term decline of physical media and the COVID-19 pandemic is responsible for this week's poor showing.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $1.62m (down 8.1%), with unit sales down 6.5%.

DVD sales decreased by $0.84m (down 3.2%), with unit sales down 3.3%.

This meant $2.46 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share decreased from 43.10% to 41.83%.

Top 10:

A lack of new releases, cased by the COVID-19 pandemic, has seen Blu-ray revenue dip to $16 million, the lowest I can remember for several years (edit: lowest since September 11, 2010!). Blu-ray market share also dipped below 40%.

Two new entries popped up in the top 10, with the 4K only 45th-anniversary re-release of Jaws, in 6th place, outselling the other new release Watchmen (the 2019 HBO limited series) in 10th.

With no big blockbuster releases in theaters until July at the earliest, this will become the new normal for the next couple of months at least.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: 'Jaws', being a 4K only release, was obviously available on 4K UHD. 'Watchmen', on the other hand, did not have a 4K release. 9 titles in this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue fell again this week, making it the new worst set of results since September 11, 2010, replacing last week's record. The COVID-19 caused lack of new releases continue, with only one new release in the top 10, The Hunt in second place, and coupled with the economic downturn, the poor results is therefore completely understandable.

The politically motivated buying of Gone With the Wind helped it to re-enter the top 100 at 5th place.
