Top 20:

Blu-ray and 4K sales share bounced back thanks to one big release: Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. It outsold everything else in its wake, and was top of both the Blu-ray and 4K combined chart and the 4K only chart.

Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning was third (it wasn't available as 4K).

Immaculate was 6th (again, not available on 4K - watch 4K trailer).

La Femme Nikita returns to the top 10 thanks to a 4K SteelBook release (it was 3rd on the 4K chart).

Doctor Who: The Celestial Toymaker was 11th, while Superman and Lois: The Complete Third Season was 14th - neither had 4K editions.

There were a couple of more new releases on the 4K only chart. The 4K re-release of Species II was 5th, Shrek 4-Movie Collection was 7th, and Shrek Forever After was 9th.

The 4K and Blu-ray release of Mute Witness was 12th, and finally, The Last Kumite was 18th.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: "Immaculate", "Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning", "Doctor Who: The Celestial Toymaker", and "Superman and Lois: The Complete Third Season" all didn't have 4K editions. 8 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

Blu-ray, Ultra HD Blu-ray Sales Share:

The BD sales share is the percentage of disc packages sold for that contained the titles's Blu-ray edition (including combos, and Ultra HD editions) for a particular title. So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film, and so anything over 50% means that the Blu-ray version of the film was more popular than the DVD version.

"Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" got a BD sales share of 63.11%, "Immaculate" got 45.21%, and "Superman and Lois: The Complete Third Season" got 37.79%. The other new releases with a BD sales share figure didn't rank high enough to get into the top 20.

On 4K, "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" got 25.11% in terms of 4K sales share. Again, the other titles like "Mute Witness" and "The Last Kumite", didn't have a 4K sales share that ranked high enough for the top 20.

Top 20:

Blu-ray and 4K sales share dropped slightly as the week's new releases, mostly limited and special edition 4K re-releases, failed to live up to last week's billing.

The top-selling new release was actually the two-movie pack Chinatown/The Two Jakes - it was 4th on the combined Blu-ray and 4K chart, and second on the 4K chart.

The 4K release of RoboCop 2 was 4th (3rd on the 4K chart). The 4K release of the 2014 version of RoboCop was also released this week, and it was 19th (7th on the 4K chart). The Criterion release of Bound (available on both 4K and standard Blu-ray editions) was 10th (5th on the 4K chart).

American Fiction was 12th (it wasn't made available on 4K, nor DVD).

There were two more new release that was in the 4K top 20, but not in the combined Blu-ray and 4K top 20. The 4K re-release of The Karate Kid in a collectible VHS packaging was 9th. American Gigolo was released as a couple of different 4K and Blu-ray editions, and it was 11th on the 4K chart.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: Pretty much every new release had a 4K or was a 4K only release. The odd one out was "American Fiction". 9 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

None of this week's aforementioned new releases had DVD editions, so nothing to report in terms of Blu-ray sales share.

"Bound" and "American Gigolo" were released in both a 4K and standard Blu-ray editions, and so while they do have 4K UHD sales share figures, neither had a figure high enough to get into the top 20.

The combined 4K UHD and Blu-ray market share decreased from 53.7% to 30.6%. The huge discrepancy is due to the fact that Avatar: The Way of Water was released during the week of June 24, 2023, so yep, hard to compete with that really.

Top 20:

A very busy week for new releases and Blu-ray/4K market share both rose significantly compared to the previous week.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire was the top-seller for the week, easily topping the all physical media chart, the Blu-ray/4K chart and the 4K only chart. The Ghostbusters 2-Movie Collection was also 5th (13th on the 4K chart).

It easily outsold the number two title, another new release, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (also second on the 4K only chart - watch trailer).

Monkey Man was 4th (7th on the 4K only chart - watch trailer).

The 40th anniversary 4K release of Purple Rain was 7th (4th on the 4K chart), while the 20th anniversary 4K release of Team America: World Police was 8th (5th on 4K chart). Another one from the makers of the previous, the 25th anniversary 4K release of South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut was 9th (6th on 4K chart).

The Blu-ray only The First Slam Dunk was 10th (it wasn't available on 4K). And we're only just finished with the top 10. Outside of it were more new releases ...

The Criterion 4K release of Blue Velvet was 12th (9th on the 4K chart), the Blu-ray only The Boys in the Boat was 13th, The Chosen: Season Four was 14th (no 4K edition), and the Blu-ray boxset The Hunger Games 5-Film Collection was 15th.

Still not finished yet. The Walmart Blu-ray exclusive edition of Mars Attacks! was 16th, Forrest Gump got the Walmart exclusive 4K SteelBook treatment and was 17th, and finally in 20th was The New Adventures of Batman: The Complete Series (on Blu-ray only, no 4K edition).

Oh no, we're not finished yet. There were still new releases on the 4K only chart that didn't rank in the combined Blu-ray and 4K chart.

Godzilla/Kong Monsterverse 5-Film Collection on 4K and DVD was 11th, the 4K release of Matinee was 12th, the 4K SteelBook release of Point Break, and the Walmart 4K SteelBook release of The Meg was 18th.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: "The First Slam Dunk", "The Boys in the Boat", "The Chosen: Season Four", "The Hunger Games 5-Film Collection", "Mars Attacks!", and "The New Adventures of Batman: The Complete Series" all did not have 4K editions. 9 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

"The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" actually had the best BD sales share of the new non-format-exclusive releases, with 68.50% (meaning 31.50% of the discs sold for this title were for the DVD only edition). "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" was only a little further back with 67.23%, which "Monkey Man" closely followed with 67.02%.

"Ghostbusters 2-Movie Collection: Afterlife/Frozen Empire" was next with 60.16%, with another boxset, the "Godzilla/Kong Monsterverse 5-Film Collection" getting 31.91% (which was also its 4K sales share, as no Blu-ray edition was offered). "The Chosen: Season Four" managed only 23.79%.

Turning to 4K, "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" was again the title with the best position on the table of the week's myriad of new releases, with a 4K sales share of 35.91%. "Monkey Man" got 29.42%, while top-seller "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" got 24.23%, besting "Ghostbusters 2-Movie Collection: Afterlife/Frozen Empire" which managed to get 7.56%.

Top 20:

Blu-ray and 4K stats dropped back down, as it was another relatively quiet week following last week's avalanche of new releases.

The 4K SteelBook release of Taxi Driver was the best-selling new release, 6th on the combined Blu-ray and 4K chart, and second on the 4K chart.

Another 4K release, the 20th anniversary edition of Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, was 8th (4th on the 4K chart).

The Guyver gets a new 4K restoration and new Blu-ray and 4K editions, and it was 12th (10th on the 4K chart). The 35th anniversary 4K edition of UHF was 13th (8th on 4K chart). And finally on the combined chart, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid gets the Criterion treatment and it was 14th (11th on the 4K chart).

Over on the 4K chart, several other new releases were in the top 20 but failed to make the combined top 20.

The Walmart 4K SteelBook version of Saw X was 13th, and the 4K restoration of Blown Away, which was also available on both Blu-ray and 4K, was 15th.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: All of this week's previously mentioned new releases had 4K editions or were 4K only releases. Every single title out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions!

Top 20:

A good week for Blu-ray and 4K as their combined sales share powered through the 50% barrier. If you look at the top 10 below, you may be hard-pressed to see which A-list release is responsible, but it wasn't so much that, as a combination of everything. This is because Amazon Prime Day took place just a few days after this reporting period, and as is the case recently, 4K and Blu-ray (and DVD) deals started to flow through a few days earlier - right at the end of this current reporting period. Another factor was that quite a few of this week's new releases weren't made available on DVD - perhaps a new trend emerging due to the continued decline of physical media.

With that said, this week's top-seller, Civil War, did well and was clear at the top of the combined Blu-ray and 4K chart. It was also the top-selling title on the 4K only chart, although no DVD only release was available.

In a somewhat distant second was The Boy and the Heron (3rd on the 4K chart - no DVD edition was made available, although a SteelBook version was).

Abigail was third on the combined chart (no 4K version was available), while the 4K re-release of Twister (along with a Limited Edition SteelBook) was 5th (second on the 4K chart).

Then it was all the way down to 8th for the next new release, Boy Kills World (5th on the 4K chart - no DVD edition was made available). Unsung Hero was 9th (no 4K edition was available) and that was it for new releases in the top 10.

Outside of the top 10, Challengers was 11th (not available on 4K), and the Blu-ray only release of Doctor Who: Tom Baker - Complete Season Four was 12th.

There was one more new release in the 4K only top 20, the 4K Criterion release of Le Samouraï, in 16th.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: Other than "Abigail", "Unsung Hero", "Challengers", and "Doctor Who: Tom Baker - Complete Season Four", everything else was available on 4K or were 4K exclusives. 8 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

On 4K, "Boy Kills World" got a 4K sales share of 55.00%. "The Boy and the Heron" managed 46.63%, just ahead of "Civil War" with 45.25%.

Top 20:

The full brunt of Amazon Prime Day happened this reporting week, and the top 10 is fully reflective of this, as on-sale titles flood into the top 10. There are turns to the top 10 for Oppenheimer, The Thing, and The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy, as well as a return to the top 20 for older releases like Back to the Future: The Ultimate Trilogy and Blade Runner: The Final Cut.

There was a single new release in the top 20 though, and that was the 4K release for The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. It was 12th on the combined Blu-ray and 4K chart and 6th on the 4K chart.

Top 20:

New releases, and perhaps a hangover from the Amazon Prime Day sales, meant that 4K and Blu-ray market share was once again higher than that for DVDs.

The best-selling new release for the week, and the overall top-seller, was The Fall Guy - it was second on the 4K only chart.

The next new release was in 4th place, the 4K and Blu-ray only release of Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three (9th on the 4K chart).

The Strangers: Chapter 1 was the next new release in 8th (11th on the 4K chart).

The Criterion edition of Risky Business on 4K and Blu-ray was 11th (6th on the 4K chart).

Halo: Season Two was 13th (also 13th on the 4K chart). And finally, in 20th, was Arcadian (it was not made available on 4K).

As usual, there were a couple more new releases in the 4K, but only in the top 20. Jaws 3, available in a 4K and 4K SteelBook edition, was 12th on the 4K chart. Jaws: The Revenge was 16th.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: Only "Arcadian" wasn't made available on 4K. Every single title out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions!

"The Strangers: Chapter 1" actually had the best BD sales share out of all the new releases this week that had separate DVD editions, with 70.14%.

"The Fall Guy" was next with 63.77%. "Halo: Season Two" got 53.70%. "Arcadian" got 45.10%.

On 4K, looking at the releases that had both separate 4K and Blu-ray editions, "Risky Business" got a 4K sales share of 73.64%, "Halo: Season Two" got 35.35%, "The Fall Guy" had 29.72%, "The Strangers: Chapter 1" managed 25.28%, and "Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three" 21.12%.

The stats for the week ending July 29, 2023 are as follows.

Percentage of Units Sold:
UHD: 9.8%
Blu-ray: 36.0%
DVD: 54.2%

The combined 4K UHD and Blu-ray market share increased from 45.8% to 56.3%. Hidden in the details is that UHD's disc sold share went up from 9.8% to 25.5%!

Top 20:

Blu-ray and 4K market share dropped back a bit. The best-seller for the week was The First Omen, but it was only 5th on the combined Blu-ray and 4K chart (it wasn't available on 4K).

Ted Lasso: The Richmond Way is another one that wasn't available on 4K, and it was 7th on the combined chart.

The limited 4K and Blu-ray edition of The Man From U.N.C.L.E was 15th (6th on the 4K only chart).

On the 4K only chart, the Paramount Presents 4K edition of Election was 10th. The 4K edition of The Lady From Shanghai was 13th, the 4K and Blu-ray editions of No Way Out was 16th, and the 25th anniversary 4K edition of Run Lola Run was 19th.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: As mentioned earlier, "The First Omen" and "Ted Lasso: The Richmond Way" weren't made available on 4K. 8 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

Blu-ray, Ultra HD Blu-ray Sales Share:

The BD sales share is the percentage of disc packages sold for that contained the titles's Blu-ray edition (including combos, and Ultra HD editions) for a particular title. So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film, and so anything over 50% means that the Blu-ray version of the film was more popular than the DVD version.

"The First Omen" had a BD sales share of 58.55%, while "Ted Lasso: The Richmond Way" was just below it with 58.43%.

On 4K, "No Way Out" and "The Man From U.N.C.L.E" should be on the 4K sales share chart, but they were oddly absent.

The stats for the week ending August 5, 2023 are as follows.

UHD: 20.9%
Blu-ray: 30.7%
DVD: 48.4%

The combined 4K UHD and Blu-ray market share decreased from 51.6% to 38.8%. "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" was released this time last year, hence the big drop in combined market share.

Top 20:

4K sales share was up, Blu-ray sales share was down, as we have a week where new releases were light on the ground again.

We have only three 4K releases in the top 20 this week, and the 4K SteelBook edition of Collateral was the best-selling of the lot, coming in at 9th on the combined 4K and Blu-ray chart (second on the 4K only chart).

Bill & Ted’s Most Triumphant Trilogy was the only other new release in the combined top 20, at 16th (6th on the 4K chart). On the 4K only chart, the 4K SteelBook release of Hackers was also new, coming in at 9th.

And that was it for new releases this week.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: All three new releases were 4K only releases. 9 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

The combined 4K UHD and Blu-ray market share decreased from 44.4% to 33.3%. "Fast X" was released this time last year, so another week with a big drop in combined market share.

Top 20:

Blu-ray and 4K sales share both rose thanks to a couple of new releases, although it was mostly down to the top-seller. The top-selling new release, and also the week's overall top-seller, was Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (it was top of both the combined Blu-ray and 4K chart, and the 4K only chart).

It easily outsold the second-placed IF (4th on the 4K chart).

The Bikeriders was 3rd (second on the 4K chart). It was then all the way down to 12th for the next new release, Chucky: Season Three (it wasn't made on 4K).

There were a couple of more new releases on the 4K only chart. The 4K Criterion version of The Last Emperor was 14th on the 4K chart, the 4K edition of The Delta Force was 15th, and Game Night was 16th.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: Only "Chucky: Season Three" wasn't made available on 4K. Every single title out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions!

The BD sales share is the percentage of disc packages sold for that contained the titles's Blu-ray edition (including combos, and Ultra HD editions) for a particular title. So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film, and so anything over 50% means that the Blu-ray version of the film was more popular than the DVD version.

"Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" topped the BD sales share with 71.61%. "The Bikeriders" had 54.36%, and "IF" failed to break through the 50% barrier with 48.30%.

"Chucky: Season Three" managed 44.53%.

For 4K releases (that at the very least had a standard Blu-ray release), "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" again was top, with 42.57%, "The Bikeriders" had 18.39%, and "IF" got 7.17%.
