Ok. I'll pull the trigger and at least have that to start w/in relation to the build. I know you mentioned Linux a while back but maybe for starters windows will do. It will support all the new specs w/regards to hd/blu-ray right? New mobo, processor, video card, burners, etc...

P.S. This is what I'm looking at. http://www.9software.com/Windows_XP_...p/wnxphmcd.htm

Do I have to get the sp2 cd separate?

With Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2
when it arrives we shall have fun making a xp home disk with sp3 slipstreamed into it

you can always use the disk for a repair install on all your neighbors/family/friends computers in the meantime

might as well hang out a sign when you have the know how and the tool

don't ever use your number on another computer tho

So you saw the link at the site you gave me. It comes alone, but sp2 comes in another disc so you can add it. That'll be ok. Newegg has this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowIm...th+SP2B+1+Pack

Don't know what the b stands for. Just get the 2 separate ones at the microsoft site you posted?

I am planning to slipstream sp3 into my bootable cd. Any precautions to take Chewy?
Is this way OK ? I think I saw you mention nlite in some other thread.Does it require .net 2 or above?

nLite needs .NET Framework 2.0 to be installed
I am so wary of this heavy installation. BTW, will .net 3.5 be backward compatible?

doc I would just get the 60$ cd, should be free shipping, that's what it showed for me

I am sure it would be sp1 or higher

you would need to download the sp3 anyway and it will update sp1 fine

I got it. Just didn't catch your quote right away in the above post. Gives you choice of shipping. I chose priority mail. Free shipping on $99 and over. We'll have a fun time. I'll do research on mobos, processors, memory and slowly we'll put it together. The hd/blu-ray burners would come later as I don't think they've past the test of time yet. Also $$$ as they're still off the charts. Also took a peek at nlite. looks great.

The reason I don't use meGUI. IIRC, I heard you complain about .net 2 yourself because it was needed for a certain program to be installed.

I was assimilated, net 3 is what I am afraid of now

                          extra service and all

if you wait long enough they get the bugs out

Ok Chewy so the oem windows xp disc is on its way. What's usually the first course of action pertaining to a build? IE: Shopping 4 a mobo, processor, hd/blu-ray video card? This isn't going to happen over night but I want to start w/the basics and do research so that way I do my part w/my friend Google and then follow suggestions from there.
