I'm wondering why he didn't just copy the games for himself, return the original instead of blanks, stop right there or............
make copies for sale..

I don't know what kind of store he went to but here once you open it you can't return it, only exchange it for an identical game (They probably had similar scams) (I ran into this issue when I bought Return of the King for PC and didn't have a video card, the store wouldn't let me return it and I had to go buy a $50 video card that cost me more than I paid for the game)

Though I suppose he could have gotten an "identical copy" and then had two working games... it's odd that a store would give you a full refund though.

When I was working at Best Buy absolutely no refunds on opened computer software,game software, only exchange for defective disk which also included DVD's and CD also.

Stores here have trade-in programs where if you played the game for less than a week, you get most of your money back. For example, if you trade back GTA IV by 6 May, you get $111 (the retail price is $119).

The major retailers do not do that, but at places like game stop will buy used game from you at a greatly reduced price than what you have paid. Usually 1/3 of the retail price.

Stores here work like doctorhardware is describing... you can only exchange media for an identical title, no refunds.

EB Games will buy stuff back, but it's such a ripoff, they offered to pay me $5 for a $20 game, after 1 day. Why on Earth would anyone want to do that?

EB Games is a JOKE.Like drf said, they totally rip you off when you sell them games.They also try to sell used games as new.The reason I know this is because they accidentally put a scratched up game in the case.When you ask them why the plastic wrap is off, they tell you it's because they want to be sure the games are not broke

Actually the GTA IV offer I was talking about is from the Australian branch of EB Games I think. It's store credit only, but people have been using (and abusing) it to get some real bargains ... buy GTA IV for $78 from other retailers, get $111 credit and then buy whatever games they want (as long as it's for a title that doesn't have a rip off price like GTA IV).

Oh wow, ours isn't even that bad. Ours says they take the disc out of the case to prevent theft (since it's in a mall, they have no metal detectors and you could imagine how high crime would be without doing that). But at least you can exchange a title within 30 days, you just can't get your money back.

Ironically, F.Y.E. will pay more for games, but they also charge more. I had a Star Wars DVD I was selling (fullscreen version I got as a gift, after I bought the widescreen one I found no point in keeping both), I took it to EB and they offered $3. F.Y.E. gave me $7 for it... but they charge $30 for a single-disc DVD! Amazon's like half their price!

So on that note, anyone know any place that isn't a ripoff? Pretty much all we have here is EB Games/GameStop and F.Y.E...
