New 500GB Recordable Blu-ray Exposed In Oz

Australia is the first country outside of Japan to receive Panasonic’s first stand-alone Blu-ray Disc recorder. The DMR-BW500 will have a 500GB HDD, Blu-ray recording functions, and twin DVB-T HD tuner with 7-day EPG.

A 1 TB HDD recorder + Blu-ray *player* and DVD recorder makes more sense than having a 500 GB Blu-ray recorder for the moment, considering the cost and scarcity of Blu-ray media. And it would be a lot cheaper too.

I record a lot of football matches and I archive quite a few matches to DVDs (only never to watch them ever again of course), so having the ability to store 5 or 6 games on a single Blu-ray disc does have its appeal. But I'll settle for recording to HDD and archiving selected content to DVDs, takes up more storage space, but I won't lose 5 or 6 games simply because I've misplaced one disc or damaged it beyond repair.
