That’s the magic number for Blu-ray Disc sales this year, according to a majority of the home entertainment studio presidents at transFORMATions, the seventh annual Home Entertainment Summit, held June 16-17 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. If they can hit that number, they’ll start opening the champagne.
There is a chance that Blu-ray sales can reach this figure this year, but sales will have to double the current weekly sales before it can happen. Right now, based on the last two week's sales figures, Blu-ray sales will reach around $500m this year.
But to put this figure into context, DVD does $1b in business every 2 months. But this figure is quickly declining due to price cuts. Blu-ray may sell $1b this year, but then again, DVD sales may decline by $1b or more.
