I think the opening ceremony was spectacular, any way you look at it.

What I don't believe are some of the swimming world records. I can see the green WR line touch before the swimmer and then, surprise! surprise!, yes, it's another WR for Phelps or whoever. Bullsh!t!!! As well, wearing swimsuits - designed by Aussies or not - that provide for extra buoyancy and less surface tension is just cheating IMO.

I also have a sneaky suspicion that Chinese divers get extra points for what appears (in super duper slow mo) to be the same quality dive. This is not pointing to the Chinese - I have long thought that host nations get a bit more favoured treatment in sports where judgement is subjective. I now prefer objective sports where judges are limited to rule interpreting (e.g., and despite their poor reputation for drugs, cycling and weightlifting - although I saw an abhorrent thing the other day when some poor athlete was holding the bar up for what seemed an eternity only to get 3 reds when she finally dropped it).

And what about the most boring soccer game of all time, just concluded between World Champions Italy and Cameroon - a 0-0 draw!!!! Gimme a break, puleeeeze.

Still, it's sport and it's supposed to be friendly. Congratulations to all competitors and medalists, and especially to Michael Phelps, whose parents must both be amphibian, and to the Italian lady fencer (Valentina), who has 3 gold medals in a row and to the Swedish cyclist (Gustav someone) who came out of total obscurity to come 2nd in the men's time trial - these are great stories. Commiserations especially to our equestrian team, who were so close - it took 3 perfect rides to beat them out of the medals And finally, I hope all athletes come out fit and well - seeing the Korean weightlifter get hurt was sickening.

Italy loves to play boring soccer, that's how they won the world cup,lol.

I have to agree with the diving, and what about the 8 year old gymnasts for China, I mean 16 year olds. Are you kidding me!

I wasn't as impressed with the the ceremonies once I found out part of it was pre rerecorded,LOL.

Yeah, but the fireworks were sensational. We loved the fireworks that looked like big feet running towards the stadium.

And I have no love for soccer since we were bundled out of the word cup by Italy taking a dive in the penalty area just before full time. The (Spanish I think) ref was sent home after that game. Good God, why do I still remember these things?

I still haven't got over the boxing decisions that went against Canada years ago, so don't feel bad. Oh & I think the BSOD problem was driver related, LOL.

How far into the ceremony was this?

I recorded the first day opening ceremony on two DVDs (And then left to band camp for a week)... if it's on there I'd love to find it so I can see that part.

The BSOD should be in the last part, just before the olympics flame was lit. There are many feeds for the opening ceremony that different stations used, so I'm not sure if all of them have it.

I have watched about 15 minutes of the Olympics this year while waiting in an emergency room. I thought these games were for amateurs. When they let the pros play (including hockey), it reduces the true meaning and quality of the Olympics.

I've never seen American Pie: Band Camp but I assume you're referring to that? We did have a lot of fun though... from my singing the Pokémon theme at karaoke night to us pranking one of the chaperones and getting it on "candid camera"

I recorded NBC (was there any other American station showing it?), the standard definition one. We don't have HD yet (Though my parents said we might pick up a new TV this week!) Do you mean different NBC stations used different feeds or different countries? I know CBC was showing something Olympics but when I flipped to that all I saw was people walking so I assume that was something else...
