HD DVD and Blu-ray is basically the same software technology, with different optical disc media (and even the media isn't all that different, both using blue laser technology).

Maybe I'm wrong, but more work seems to have gone into making HD DVD encodes than Blu-ray ones, since many of the Blu-ray ones from the previous HD DVD exclusive studios are basically just the same transfer as before. I think perhaps because HD DVD was the underdog, they gave extra attention to things like encoding. But now that Blu-ray is the only game in town, there's almost no need to make a good transfer (in fact, there's reason not to, as you can always release a super duper extra special collector's edition with a better transfer to get people to buy the same movie again).

That's exactly why I'm not buying tons of Blu-Rays.

And I actually wanted HD-DVD to win... because it's not evil like Sony is. Oh well. I think I'll stick to standard DVD and renting Blu-Rays, as I have it planned out right now. Plus, what's the use of buying Blu-Rays if you can only watch them on one TV?

I've seen the Blu-ray flicks that Block Buster puts on display. They are compelling. Especially when they had Ironman on one of their sets. That said, guess what hardware they were using for the display? Not a hard question at all. They had a ps3 hooked up to a Sony 1080p w/all the goodies playing Ironman and they do that with every Blu-ray release. The BB down my way aleady has about 6 Sony hdtv's in their store. Still anyway. Some nut is going to go in there and take them. Anyway like ed said and blu has also, no one right now is going to lay down the serious $$$ to get all it takes to get the best out of Blu-ray, which essentially means all of Sony's gadgets. Admin already said the campaign was until 2012 so if that still holds true, if we're at 7% I really in my own mind which I still feel is on point don't see it surviving. The numbers don't add up and numbers never lie.

Basically if I was at all really moved to throw myself into this Blu-ray thing I would of regardless of the cost. We all get what we really want when we want it. Even if it leads to the poor house. That said, like anything else, whoever likes Blu-ray or anything else on this planet will ride the wave until it hits the beach. Hopefully for those riding it'll never reach the shore, or at least take its time getting there.

Please explain to me how in the world do they really plan to make this stick, with guys like Bishop running things? Or just make it happen anyway? Why in the world would anyone in their right mind get a ps3 unless they were a gamer, and wanted to surf the net, and watch videos etc... So Sony is banking on the public to all of a sudden want to do all these things w/their equipment?
