The Chinese-language Economic Daily News (via DigiTimes and Engadget HD) is reporting that small, little-known "white-box" manufacturers may start churning out $150 Blu-ray players for the U.S. market this year. Also expected to join the $150 Blu-ray party: LiteOn, a mid-tier video deck manufacturer with a relatively solid reputation.

Anyone know of any IDE Blu-Ray drives still? I don't have SATA, and it seems impossible to find one now.CYA Later:

Yeah, that is pretty pricey.
I could get a USB 2.0 burner for about that much
Though if I see one pop up for under $150 I might go for it.CYA Later:

Why not try to find a external SATA case to USB.Star Baby Girl, Born March,1997 Died June 30th 2007 6:35 PM.Comment

Do external cases work with optical drives? LOL, somehow I figured they'd prevent the door from opening... like with USB hard drives being 100% enclosed.CYA Later:

BUT, the Blu-ray player would be almost useless at any price (IDE OR SATA connection) unless it plays:
1. homemade compliant Blu-ray structures (BDMV folder) on any type of blank media, DVD 5, BD-5, DVD-9, BD-9, BD-R (single and dual layer), and BD-RE. Also, able to play built BD-ROM disks
2. commercial compliant Blu-ray structures (BDMV folder), built as BD-ROM disks on 25gb and 50gb blank disks.
Select you options and settings you want your hardware standalone Blu-ray player to do before you purchase.

I have several one Samsung and a Pioneer, both cases have fans that keep the drives cool. These are the drives that I use for DVD work.Star Baby Girl, Born March,1997 Died June 30th 2007 6:35 PM.Comment
