Sony to Shrink Cell/B.E. in PS3 to 45 nm

What does that mean?

Is that an improvement, downgrade... or is it like Jasper was to the Xbox 360 and just a different way of making it?

It will be like Jasper - a cooler, more efficient CPU that will probably cost less to produce in the long run.

I think cheaper production costs is the main reason. Sony must be under immense pressure to turn a profit from the PS3. It's over two years old and sales are falling due to the still very high cost.
