The woman who received the $1.92m judgement against her has asked for a new trial, calling the verdict "monstrous". And who can disagree with her?
Even one of the artists of one of the songs that she allegedly shared has came out in her defence. Richard Marx called the RIAA greedy and even though he agrees with the need to take action, the actual judgement in his words should be considered "farcical".
Chicago Sun-Times music critic, Jim DeRogatis, also said this in regards to the judgement:
It may have been a win in court for the RIAA, but it has been dealt a serious defeat in the PR wars.
