Sony has decided not to release screeners for their film Moon and this might see Moon miss out on an Oscar, particularly for the movie's star, Sam Rockwell.
Piracy is the reason that Sony refused to release a screener as the DVD version of the movie is not yet available in the US. Most screeners come with copy protection in the form of watermarking, but Sony refuses to spend any money to produce such a version. The ridiculousness of the situation is further compounded by the fact the region-free Blu-ray version of the movie is already available in the UK, and that pirated DVD rips are already available online, so the fear of losing sales in the US market due to an "unauthorised release" is a moot point.
