ESPN is set to launch 3D sports programming, with the opening game of the FIFA World Cup to be broadcast in 3D.
The soccer world cup game is one of 85 planned 3D events for the "ESPN 3D" channel in 2010. It's unclear what type of 3D will be used, and whether special equipment, other than special glasses, will be required.
Meanwhile, Sony, Discovery and IMAX are also set to launch a dedicated 3D channel, but it won't launch until next year.
These announcements come from the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, where 3D has been a strong theme for this year's exhibitors.
