Lobby Group Says Open Source Is Evil

The International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA), which includes groups such as the MPAA and RIAA as its members, and also the Business Software Alliance (BSA), has been secretly lobbying US Trade Representatives to classify governments that recommend open source software as "enemies of capitalism".

The governments of Indonesia, Brazil and India have been recommending the use of open source for its departments and agencies. The IIPA believes that open source "weakens the software industry" and "fails to build respect for intellectual property rights."

And as a result, the IIPA has been secretly trying to get these countries to be given "special 301 status", otherwise known as the "enemies of capitalism" list. Canada was also added to the list earlier, and the UK may also be added to the list as it also recommends the use of open source software.
