Important Norway Supreme Court Piracy Case Underway

With much secrecy surrounding it, a piracy case is going to the Norwegian Supreme Court. Going after the alleged uploader of the Norwegian film Max Manus, the Simonsen law firm has been trying to obtain the identity of what they believe is the first uploader of the film from an IP address that the law firm has managed to find.

Having been through court before, the outcome has been kept secret and whoever lost that case insisted on appealing to the Supreme Court.

But according to the website TorrentFreak, all of this may be futile if Simonsen was intending to find the original uploader of the film, as the IP address seems only to point to a secondary uploader. It seems Simonsen chose an easier target to pursue the case in court, rather than doing more investigative work to find the real creators and original uploaders of the pirated version.

    More:

After an ISP refused to hand over the identity of a customer to anti-piracy lawyers who claim him to be the first uploader of a pre-release movie, they took the case to court. Shrouded in secrecy the case is heading for the Supreme Court but even if the anti-piracy group wins, they're going to get the ID of the wrong guy.
