A leaked Netflix survey shows the company may be considering releasing an App for the iPhone which will allow the Netflix digital library to be streamed on the smart phone.
Netflix is already available (or will be available soon) on all the major home games consoles, including the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. It is also available on a wide range of Blu-ray players and TVs. Having iPhone support, and eventual support for other phones, will mean that Netflix will have a reach that other formats can only dream of. Pretty soon, the only reason you don't have Netflix will be because you don't want it, not because you can't have it.
This here is yet another advantage of digital over traditional physical media. All these devices can be modified, through software/firmware, to support new digital delivery formats, but most of them would be hard pressed to support a new physical media format, considering many don't even have physical media inputs of any kind.
