Star Wars To Be Released On Blu-ray, Release Date Not Confirmed

Lucasfilms has confirmed that Star Wars will be released on Blu-ray, but as yet, no firm release date has been released.

The new Blu-ray sets will feature lots of new extra material, deleted scenes from dailies that have never been shown before, and all six movies will most likely be available in the same set.

When pressed for a release date, Lucasfilms "Star Wars Ambassador" Steve Sansweet could only say that "it won't be in the too distant future".

I've wondered for ages why those movies were not on Blu-Ray. The biggest maoney-making movies and they were not available on Blu-Ray for the better sound and picture. It was odd. I wonder the same about T2, Titanic and Jaws.

How much do you guys wanna bet they'll be even more altered and less like the original versions than the 2004 DVD set?

They are bound to be. Geroge Lucus is sneeky and in a clever way. He always brings them films out again in a way that we don't want them so that he can re-release them at a later date knowing the Star Wars fans were disappointed before and when what everyone wants is finally available, he knows those same Star Wars fans are tempted to buy them again and he makes even more money from them.

John Williams copied that idea with the soundtracks.

I remember when the Star Wars films from Episodes 4 to 6 first came out on DVD, they were a one-disc set each. When they were re-released as a two-disc set, they were still disappointing because so many bonus materials were still missing. Such as the makings to the original theatrical releases and a lot of the trailers to the original theatrical releases.

Some other movies have things missing. I know you are more interested in the Star Wars films but every time Jaws had a release, Universal never add all the theatrical trailers and at least two releases don't have any trailers.

I am glad to hear this.... but wasn't there supposed to be 9 stories to the Saga when it came out in the ancient days of the 70's?

Star Wars officially coming to Blu-ray in September 2011, priced at $139.99 for all six movies, or $69.99 for each trilogy:

Amazon is already taking pre-orders, at lower than the RRP:

Preordered the complete saga Blu-Ray on Amazon. I can only hope the original unmodified original trilogy is available, either as an extra, on disc, or on BD Live or something...

Forgot to add in the post above that only the Complete Saga comes with the 3 extra feature bonus discs (making the Complete Saga a 9 disc set). Buying the separate trilogy sets (3 discs each) won't have the extras.

Also, if you order from Amazon, they have their pre-order guarantee, which means you will only be charged the lowest price from the time you ordered to the time it ships (which hopefully will be less than $89.99).

Can any of you guys please tell me what a trailer has/will do that the Blu-ray disc won't/can't? I mean is a trailer really that important than the full feature movie? I'm really asking out of no knowledge at all concerning the importance or better w/e as compared to the movie itself. Thnx.

So $89.99 is the best way to go for all discs plus the extra 3 disc bonus features?

I think it's just the fact that there are all these extra features, like trailers, that are present in various editions, but Fox/Lucasfilms aren't collecting them and putting them all in the same edition. It's probably because they plan to released an "ultimate collector's" edition or something, with everything, to make fans double, or triple dip (pay for the same movie multiple times, each time with a bit more content than before).

The $89.99 6-disc version is currently the best Blu-ray version available, and the only one with extra features, so that's the version to go for (even if you don't like the prequel movies). With Amazon's pre-order guarantee, if the price of the pre-order drops before September 27, you'll only have to pay the lowest price between now and then.

I was under the impression that the complete saga had 9 discs.
