The Irish High Court has just ruled that people who attempt to download pirated content on the Internet should not complain if their Internet connections are cut off, and should also not complain about privacy.
The decision was for a lawsuit launched by major Irish music labels suing Irish ISP Eirecom for not taking responsibility for online piracy.
Those concerned about the ruling say that banning an entire family for the misuse of the Internet by a teenager, for example, is far too heavy handed to combat piracy. Banning people from the Internet also prevents them from purchasing legal content online, which had become a major source if income for the music industry.
