Nintendo says DS piracy is a serious issue that they will try to address on the 3D DS, due out next year.
Without mentioning specifics, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata told the Associated Press that Nintendo "fear a kind of thinking is become widespread that paying for software is meaningless."
The DSi was launched with updatable firmware that was supposed to help prevent piracy, but flash cart makers were able to keep up and provide their own updated firmware to allow playback of copied games, or downloaded ROMs.
The 3D DS console, dubbed the 3DS, will be on show at E3 in June, and will provide 3D effects for gamers. There are concerns over health issues with 3D, but Nintendo says that the 3D mode can be switched off easily.
