As predicted, the lucrative trade of suing for pre-trial settlement in the US has officially moved towards suing porn downloaders. XXX Copyrights is a new company set up to specifically sue those downloading pirated porn, and already, 7 cases have been filled in West Virginia district court, and more than 5,000 people may be the target of these "lawsuits" (or more precisely, being targeted for extraction of pre-trial settlement fees).
Suing pirated porn downloaders is more lucrative than suing those that download pirated mainstream movies because of the embarrassing nature of the allegations, which makes the "victims" much more likely to pay up, even if they are 100% they were innocent of the "crime".
Whereas many will choose to ignore or fight the legal threats in court, in relation to mainstream movies, nobody wants to go to court to fight charges of downloading "Bomb Ass White Booty 14" or "Massive Asses 5".
Downloaders beware. Although given the recent attacks by 4chan on similar organisations, maybe XXX Copyrights should also be more careful to secure their web assets.
