MPAA President Bob Pisano is in Japan and has told a gathering of Japanese government officials, music industry representatives and filmmakers that Japan needs to introduce Three-Strikes, to "slow the spread of the disease", referring to online piracy.
"We know there cannot be a one-size-fits-all approach to the problem; that there are cultural and practical issues requiring different approaches from one nation or region to another,†Pisano told the crowd. "But what we do feel is that the basic belief underlying all of our efforts should be the same - that individual awareness and responsibility are essential if we are to continue to make progress."
Movie studios, represented by the MPAA, made record profits in the last two years thanks to rising box office receipts, and the increasing popularity of the Blu-ray format.
