As if America's cities don't have enough financial problems already, the MPAA is forcing NYC to spend its hard earned money on anti-piracy advertising, fooling the city with ridiculous, and scary, figures such as that 40% of all camcorded pirated films originated from the city (only days after claiming that 70% of all camcorded films actually come from Canada).
The MPAA has had a lot of success in convincing the Big Apple to do all the hard work in tackling the piracy problem. Previously, it requested film theater piracy to be made a criminal, rather than civil, matter, which meant that the NYPD was tasked with the responsibility to stop people camcording in cinemas.
This new campaign, which has its own website. is funded entirely by the city of New York.
