yeas it copy protection can be taken off but it needs to be modified either to play multi-region dvd's or play copied cd's or get rid of the macrovision.

if u search the net using keyword such as 'multi-region' 'remove macro-vision' i'm sure you'll find somehting. Or u could buy a dvd mag and looks 4 addz.

The CD-R playback issue is a hardware one in most cases and can't be fixed by software (DVD lasers cannot read CD-Rs, so for players that can, a second CD laser is fitted).

As for region/Macrovision, it can be a software issue (upgrade bios/firmware) or it may already be a hidden feature on your machine (eg. turn region/Macrovision off through remote control trick) or in most cases, a hardware issue. You may need to take your player to an electronic store, which sometimes does these kind of things (check out the smaller stores, and the net and local newspapers to find out which stores in your area does DVD modifications). Otherwise, check the net for bios/firmware like hacker_on_fire mentioned, and also search for remote control tricks for your particular player.

Remembers, bios/firmware for other player won't work on your player and if applied will in 99% of cases cause your machine to stop functioning permanently.
