To admin: about the clock

I have noticed that the clock on this forum is slow by 7 minutes, according to time.gov where it is the most accurate. This clock makes me(and others) get confused. Is there any way this can you can synchronize with time.gov?

Hmmm... i noticed that too the past couple of days, but it wasn't like that before. Maybe they switched servers for a while and that made the time delayed...

I have made changes to the clock - I think I've made changes before, but forgot to update the hardware clock while I did it - so everytime a reboot occured, the "slow" clock was back in action.

OK. I noticed that the clock is off more every week. it said 3:39 when it really was 3:41. That was just after I refreshed the page too. Maybe you could put a synchronizer on the clock???

I have added a cron job to change the system time to match a public time server ... that should solve the problem

I don't pay too much attention to the clock, but it's always good to be up-to-date.

This is great. I just got my linux box set up a few weeks ago, and there was this program called "xearth" and It is a rotating satellite (3d) image of the earth and it adjusts every 5 minutes. It is really interesting to sit at my dinner table and think that It is noon in australia... Just by looking at that earth. I just found out that they have a windows version of it, so I can use it on my windows box. Since this site is VERY international, I think that it would be great if people had the earth on there desktop and see where people are, and what time they are in... If any of you are interested, go to google and search for "xearth for windows" or whatever OS you are running. It supports many OS's and is freeware.

Been using this program for 18 months now. The only problem with the windows version is that the "wallpapaper" doesn't refresh on it's own like the Linux version. You can also insert your own markers (e.g. your home town). All in all it's very nice. Been meaning to see if the author (Windows version) wouldn't put in the code to refresh the window. I believe there is an API call to do just that.

I have been a Linux fan for a long time, and so I am familiar with xearth. It is a pretty cool app. I didn't know they made a Windoze version. Cool, I'll go grab it. But, if you think xearth is cool, then you should check out XPlanet. It's even better! I don't know that there is a Windoze version of this program. XPlanet also has an OpenGL render mode and when in this render mode it can be put into Windowed mode if you like, rather than displaying on your root window(desktop). But anyway, you really need to download the Hi-Res images that are available for it on the web to get the awesome look on your desktop that XPlanet is capable of. For the most part the Hi-Res images available are, daytime earth, nightime earth, clouds, the moon, and mars. Also, get the gui front-end for it, it's called something like TkPlanet. Forget the exact name at the moment, but it's a great gui to go with a great app!
