Why can't people be more nice?

A VERY interesting thread was just closed due to someone flaming. Why can't people be more nice? Why can't they state comments more like their age? What is the problem here?

Well one great source of my war info is out the window

I was wondering if admin could simply remove the offending posts. That way, the thread would be better controlled.

And yes, I would advise people to put their hearts out of sensitive issues like these. Post with your thought and with as little bias as possible. Emotions get you nowhere.

    'nuff said.

Well, realistically, this is a forum for Digital Video. It's nice to have something of topic.....break from the norm.
For admin to "babysit" the tread is unfair. Easier for him/her to close the tread. That particular tread was bound to end in tears anyway

I understand that such a thread will ultimately be closed for a number of possible reasons.

However, it is a great pity that the very reason the thread had to be closed is because one person simply cannot keep his personal feelings out of the issue and started to needlessly attack a member. Talk about nationalism turned into thoughtless rampage.

It is all sad what some people THINK they have to resort to. When they already know that none of that would actually make Batman "sad" it's the internet he doesn't even know Oldbie do you think he would take it to heart?? lol I don't care what people say. With in reason of course

but sometimes people do say things which are strictly prohibited by the guidelines.
sometimes if the mods think that the thread is going nowhere, they rather close it then filter it or something.

What really should happen is the people that do that should grow up and be able to announce their oppinion nicely.

Then we wouldn't have to close stuff like that.

Yes I know what you mean about if the thread is going no where but it our case it was going everywhere

I have already filtered a few posts prior, really offensive posts, but it's very difficult to control a thread on such an emotional topic. Then it gets to the situation where I will have to decide which posts are offensive, and which are not, and that's just too hard.

When thing quiet down a bit, I might start a new Iraq thread, but I think people are too emotional right now - one bad post and the whole thread can be ruined.

And while Oldbie's post was what you can call an "outburst", believe it or not, there are actually quite a few people (and if polls are to be believed, most people in the US) that feel the same way. Whether its patriotism, nationalism, jingoism or imperialism, I have my opinion and I am sure you have yours as well (but I do believe that one of these things always leads to the other, eventually).

                    Admin,

You made a mistake closing "War on Iraq thread". It seems to be a very important source of expression. Don't let one negative post spoil it for everyone. Posters needs to be able to have a liberal place to express their concerns. As one poster says,

"I was wondering if admin could simply remove the offending posts. That way, the thread would be better controlled."

I think that's a great idea. Decide who's post is offensive and remove the opposition. Who said "Freedom of Speech" can't be controlled.

So please reopen the "War on Iraq thread". I'm sure with all the criticism, Oldbie36 will shrink from voicing any further un-nice, offensive or insulting opinions. Batman, Lord of Digital Video has been avenged.

To admin and all others on this thread

As admin knows, I have the greatest respect and admiration for the wonderful efforts he has made, and continues to make, in creating, maintaining, and expanding these wonderful forums and related websites - DEVOTED TO THE WORLD OF DIGITAL VIDEO!

Despite the fact that I "contributed" one or two postings to this thread (solely in an attempt to keep other posters "honest"and provide some historical background information), I believe allowing such a topic to be opened for discussion HERE is wrong-headed. It has provided the following:

                        1) A soapbox for those on the extreme Left
                        2) A soapbox for those on the extreme Right
                        3) A place to "show off" the ability to post entire articles garnered from all sorts of publications
                        4) Opportunities to be generally sarcastic and specifically hurtful
                        5) Absolutely NOTHING to furthering knowledge regarding Digital Video

I'm sure that in this marvelous era of technology, all of the posters to this thread who REALLY wish to have there voices heard, could with very little effort, find an APPROPRIATE political forum at which to post.

With all due respect, I believe that due to admin's apparent strong personal views on this topic, this thread was permitted (whether conciously or otherwise) to run to excess.

I only hope that the very personal, almost internecine warfare that has developed in this thread, doesn't carry over to the primary forum categories - since you folks are (obviously) the same ones who post to those categories as well...

(As an aside, Oldbie36's flame of Batman was SO reprehensible that I'm amazed that he/she hasn't been permanently banned)

I was hoping that the Iraq thread would bring out some sensible discussions of the issues from both sides, and indeed there were, but I can't really see this thread getting anywhere near a sensible discussion unless heavy filtering is done. Filtering is also very hard, since I obviously have an opinion on the issue as well, and it's almost impossible to remain objective.

                            cause you sux.

Nah, being mean is certainly more interesting

However, Oldbie36 wasn't comical, satirical, or even correct in his points (if you'd go so far as to call them that), so I can't possibly answer your question in this instance.

As a side note, you'll meet just as many a$$holes as you will friendly people in your life, no reason forums are going to be any different.

if everybody was behaving and acting like an educated realistic person there would be no need for "Admin", ami right guys?
but unfortunately SKDtech this is not the case, life is full of surprises and after spending mine with so many diff kind of people of diff ethnicity, culture and heritage i found it to be exactly true.
