I don't like the tatics Microsoft employ, such as buying developers (Bungie, and trying to buy EA) just becuase they have the money/power and so they can have certain games for themselves, which does not at all help competition and improve games. Also i dont like the way they think they know about games when they clearly dont as all they did was build the most powerful cosole without taking the games into consideration. In addition they have the biggest controller in the world which is not ergonomic, hence you will have aching hands after 1hr of play (if you can find a good game )

The ONE and ONLY reason to buy an XBox was because of HALO, which is now finally being released on the PC with all the extra usual stuff. By the way, this game was originally made for the PC, untill microsft brought the developers and left them with the easy task of a conversion (cos the XBox is a PC). Hence the reason why i do not like microsoft and WOULD NOT recommend the Xbox.

Go for a Playstation2 or GCube.

          Hello,

          I agree that Microsoft sucks...

But take a look at this:

Download XBMP (XBox Media Player) for free. XBMP (XBox Media Player) has been discontinued as replaced by XBMC (xbmc.org)

This sounds very, very, very interesting indeed...

          What do you think?

          Bye,

          Paulo

Yes but if you have enough money to buy Xbox MORE THAN LIKELY they have a computer so why play a media file on a Xbox besides if you have it hooked up to a surround sound system.

It has the strong points of both a PC (Harddrive, online gaming), a console, and a dvd player. Here in my part of Canada it is cheaper than a PC, and shares a price similar to the PS2. You may be surprised to learn that many electronic products contain circuits and transistors, though that does not neccesarily make a radio a PC The argument of purchasing a PS2 based on price is baseless.

I guess the main advantage is that you can use it like a portable DivX Player... Or like a portable mp3 Jukebox... Or a digital photo slideshow machine... and so on...

You can take it anywhere you want...

And you can plug it to your friend's plasma TV or to your uncle's wall projector and watch your divX movies...

I guess this Xbox Media Player is a great thing to the Xbox.... I think it will help Microsoft selling more...

But in the games department I still think PS2 is far better than Xbox....

That is way better than lugging around a PC!

What is required for this modification and how much is it expected to cost?

A variety of "Modchips" that allow the ability to play pirated games, divx/xvid content, etc... (which in most cases would void a consoles warranty) are readily available for both the PS2 and XBOX systems. All it takes is a simple google search.

                        There ARE external mod chips.

I myself have a mod cd.

Modification is just getting the files on to your Xbox hard-drive. No hardware mods needed. That's cool

First you need a PC to get the files from, so theirs no need to get an XBox,as your PC is alot more versatile and can play nearly all files. So deciding to buy an Xbox to play media files is no Reason.

It has the strong points of both a PC (Harddrive, online gaming)..
Wait for the PSX, it will do what Xbox can do but a lot better. IF you are really keen on playing online, then stick with the PC as its the best option cos consoles cost a lot more to get online (broadband, adapter...)

Here in my part of Canada it is cheaper than a PC, and shares a price similar to the PS2.
In the UK the PS2 is cheaper then the XBox. Hence if youre buying from the UK price is a factor.

You can take it anywhere you want...
Not with its weight or looks

And you can plug it to your friend's plasma TV or to your uncle's wall projector and watch your divX movies...
As mentioned the PC is more versatile. BUT if you really want to see it on the big screen, TV-Out is a cheaper option.

A variety of "Modchips" that allow the ability to play pirated games, divx/xvid content, etc... are readily available for both the PS2 and XBOX systems.
If both PS2 and XBox be modded to play such files, then do not use this as a reason. Also you should be legit...not pirating multimedia all the time

I somehow missed this on the first page.

Microsoft thought they could take the market share of the gaming world, with their power and money just because their were becoming jealous of Sony ruling the the living room
Are you referring to the exact same thing Sony did to Nintendo?

Sony did not try to monoplise the gaming market. They improved competition benefiting the gaming world. Sony know how the games industry works hence thier success, Microsoft do not.
