My laptop came with a a remote that works with windvd (in xp home). And of course tv-out.
I'm curious if hd-dvd will necessarily need xp media center.
As i see it this win media edition would not be an add-on, but a simplified os, designed for multimedia-boxes, where proccesses that are not media related are swept out.Comment

You can record with xp media centre, however the files you record are in a "secure" M$ format, so burning, or editing or converting them may be difficult.
The hd-dvd for Terminator special edition, will work on Windows XP (xp media centre is not necessary, only wmv9) provided you are in Canada/US.Comment

yes u can use media center edition on ur laptop, only if u have somehow get the OS , well ur functioning will be limited to whatever the hardware u have..................
if u dont have any capture card and the remte u will still use media center to watch ur dvd's or listen to mp3's with the use of mouse , but then there is no point to use it........
and oh if u manage to upgradde to MCE 2004 somwho aswelll dont forget to use the patch frm microsoftthe latest one solves the slow responce time of pc after mce2004 and other bugssSeems like as soon you buy somehing, v. 2 comes out 1.5 times as fast!..!Comment
