Anyone know anything about them. I have built a radio controlled airplane, but never flown it. Id love to fly a helicopter though. I have a cheap £30 indoor one which is cool, but would love the outdoor big boys.
Radio Controlled Helicopters

Do they have kits? Those things are aeronautically complicated. The rotor mast must tilt the blades so that on the receding side the blade has a large angle of attack, and on the acsending side it's nearly flat (to compensate for the additional lift. Helicopters actually stall out by going so fast you cant reduce angle of attack anymore on the acsending blade...it picks up too much lift and flips the bird over and bores a hole in the ground. With the tail rotor you must hold left rudder when moving forward to compensate for torque (backwards from a fixed wing aircraft.) In addition, the whole motor mast tilts to give you forward and backward movement. With that many moving parts I'd think a kit would be highly expensive (if they're available at all.)Last edited by rsquirell; 8 Sep 2003, 08:22 AM. -
Yeah, there are lots of them available with loads of bearings. The bearings are expensive, there was one with 20 bearings, and then the same everything except 30 bearings and it was £120 more. The thing is i have a Futaba Skysport 6 (6 channels) Radio and was hoping to get a heli-wopper with everything installed. Just use my radio.http://www.dvd-backup.tkComment

Neato...might want to load up on extra bearings when you buy one. Real Life helicopters get full inspections every 25 hours of flight...and several models call for engine tear downs and or replacement at hundred hour intervals. Lotsa moving parts.Comment

Hey, what do you think of the Sanwa RD6000 - it is a 6ch with computer as far as im aware. Im going to get it i think. Also, do you know where i could get some software for the computer to train on, since ive never flown a helicopter.

Go to www.realflight.com . That is what I use for my airplanes and it also has helicopters in the G2 version which I suggest. Also get all the add-ons if possible. It is pretty expensive but believe me it is worth saving a heli/airplaneComment

On which one - the one in the image or the one i bought. the one i bought doesnt have any rotor blades on it in the photo. The one in the image is a Morley F1 .46 engine, compared to my .32 engine. It would be a better performer in heavier winds, but very similar in control and performance it little to lno winds. However, the bodykit looks amazing on it, but would cost a lot more to fix in crashes. I think i may have a few of themhttp://www.dvd-backup.tkComment
