    hi there,
i would like to point out a few things concerning tools like hijackthis and any registry editing program. if you do not know what you are doing or have never messed with the registry then do not mess with it! it's very easy to screw it up and if you didn't back it up you could wind up doing a reinstall. hijackthis has a forum that goes with it http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ this is the developers site and there are links to the forum there. follow the directions found on the site. as for making sure your PC is crapware free Ad-awareSE, spybot search and destroy, Microsofts antispyware, and webroots SpySweeper are very good programs for finding and removing the nastier ones.
one more bit of advice get and install and update a good AV program and firewall (there are several free ones availible like AVG, AVAST, ZONEALARM, and BACKICEDEFENDER.) these are all good programs.
    i hope this helps someone.
