if your looking for something that's kinda corni but kinda cool too. I think House (horror), Big trouble Little China (action), or the real intro to effects is Clash of the Titans. they might not like it but you'll be hard to get away from the TV.

OMG, one of the sickest scenes in movie history. They cut jacks nose man, they cut his nose. from the nostril out, man it hurts just saying it. anyway great flick. you really can't go wrong with jack in that decade.

I loved the Shining Jack was great in it as well as Shelly Duvall but I have to say the one they remade for TV was a lot better and scarier IMHO here is the link to it The Shining

the shining with Jack was one of Steven Kings least favorite adaptations due to Kubrics knack for making a story his own. a very big reason why the TV movie was different. King had more control during production and sticks much closer to original story. I'm just a sucker for all thing Stanely so I am a Jack Shining fan.

Another film I liked by Stanley Kubrick was A Clockwork Orange that movie was just crazy.I loved Malcolm McDowells performance in this movie.
Alex - Appy-polly-loggies. I had something of a pain in my golova so I had to sleep. I was not awakened when I gave orders for awakening.

The shining was ok but it was too different to the SK book. The mini series was better.

The best Kubrick films are 2001 and Full Metal Jacket.

Kubrick is a love it or hate it situation. I really enjoyed his films upto Eyes Wide Shut, but I can understand why some people do not like them. Dr Strangelove was genius! Think what a film A.I. could have been in Kubrick's hands! Instead it was dross!

@ Daft, What did you think of the Hitchikers film? I was very disapointed, everything I loved about the radio show just didnt seem to be there in the film. I think Douglas would have been very unhappy with the final product. Trillian was nice though!

Man I wrote a big long winded (naturally) post about "One flew over the Cuckoos Nest" and the various "Shining's" a couple hours ago, but it seems to have disappeared. Oh well, if somebody spots it in some other forum let me know

LT, that was the point! If anybody watched that and didn't feel revolted by some of what they were seeing on-screen then Kubrick would have failed, but he didn't fail. To me it's one of, if not Kubrick's best, truly a great film, Malcolm McDowell gave an astonishing performance. Not surprisingly the movie was 'X' rated when it was initially released, amazingly it still managed to get an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture and Best Director, then it was widely banned. Not many people actually got to see the film in the '70's.

The other extremely cool thing about that movie was the soundtrack by "Walter Carlos", it was nearly 20 years later that we found out that Walter was actually Wendy, who had changed her name because nobody would have taken 'her' seriously in those days. She was probably the most popular and influential of the early artists in the 'electronic music' genre, having great success with the "Switched on Bach" series, and her other soundtrack work, including "Tron".
