I keep all my data on seperate partitions on a seperate HDD from the OS and back them up to DVD. Having the data (email, favorites, My Documents etc.)on a seperate partition on a 2nd HDD enables you to do a HDD wipe and fresh install of your OS and not lose any data or worry about findiing them to do a backup. Also the chance of 2 HDD's failing at once are slim to none. And backing them up to DVD is as good a backup media as any. I have a very similar setup anonymez. I have a 40GB hard drive partitioned into 2 20GB hard drives. On the first partition, I have my OS (Windows) on that partition. On the second partition, I have all of my music &important data/files. Then I have a 300 GB hard drive partitioned in to 2 150GB hard drives, which I use the first partition as a storage for all of my "Complete" DVD rips, then the second partition for all of my "Shrinked" files.
That way when I reformat, I still have all of my important data/files on those partitions.Comment
