my computer keeps crashing
My Computer Specs:
Windows XP Home Edition
SP2
1.2Ghz AMD Duron
384MB DDR Ram
256MB Nvidia GeForceFX 5200 Graphics Card

250GB HDTags: None -
what was the last thing you instaled or downloaded. are you getting your updates installed, and if so what OS are you updating. XP bugs are out there and the SP2 had a bunch. use a updated virus check on your comp or better still open up cpu in safe mode. Tons of stuff that can frag cpu, you just got to narrow it down to what is making it do this now.Comment

Hmmm, yesterday all your .RAR files are corrupt, today the system is crashing. It sounds like a hardware problem, just a matter of figuring out what is going bad.
Perhaps the hard drive is going bad, run chkdisk with 'scan for and recover bad sectors' ON. If that passes ok, turn off the computer and open the case, check for dust bunnies and dirt build up on the CPU heatsink, it could be overheating. Turn the power on when you're done cleaning up and make sure all the fans are working. Next step would be to run memtest86 to check the system RAM. Other possibilites include power supply, motherboard, etc.

Now would be a good time to backup all the files that are irreplaceable.
One possible cause could also be a bad HDD cable - those old ribbon type cables are very prone to heat damage.Comment
