              DVD-18's?? WTH are those?

That's the first season the library has, there are 5 discs, the 5th has Blueprint for Murder.

not what mine are. dvd-18's are double sided dual layer discs. there are more than 1 columbo sets on dvd. actually the entire 69 episode run was released before season 1! god bless the men and women who made that happen

drf i suggest "murder by the book" next. don't think...just do it.

LOL! What disc is that on? (the 5 disc set)

And curious, that the library has 4 DL's and 1 SL as the 5-disc, and you have 4 dual sided DL's... is the quality better, or are there special features?

no special features unless you count a bloody menu. you'll find that many people directed various episodes, blueprint for murder doesn't have the best music. i'll give you that. don't get the wrong impression. actually not what i would have chosen as "my first columbo". many have great music like "lovely but lethal" and "death lends a hand" "double exposure" (really good) "lady in waiting" "the most crucial game" "a stitch in crime" "swan song" goes on and on...you'll also notice that each and every episode title has a meaning regarding the plot. you know this with blueprint for murder, now that you have seen it...and notice the director?

                    "Blueprint for Murder" (1972)
                    Season: 1, Episode - 7

                    Director: Peter Falk
Written by: Steven Bochco (from a story by William Kelley and Ted Leighton)
Produced by: Richard Levinson and William Link
                    Originally aired: Februrary 9, 1972
                    Run Time: 90 (mins)

Cast: Peter Falk as LT. Columbo

                    Patrick O'Neal as Elliot Markham
                    Forrest Tucker as Beau Williamson
                    Janis Paige as Goldie Williamson
                    Pamela Austin as Jennifer Williamson
                    Bettye Ackerman as Miss Sherman
                    John Fielder as Dr. Moss
                    John Finnegan as Carl
                    Nick Dennis as Guard
                    Robert Gibbons as Clerk
                    Cliff Carnell as Officer Wilson
                    Jimmy Joyce as Workman

Plot: Flamboyant Texas tycoon Beau Williamson returns from a long trip abroad to learn that brilliant architect Elliot Markham has persuaded his wife, young Jennifer Williams, to fund a revolutionary multi-million-dollar office complex: Williamson City. Beau is not touched ( except in his wallet ) by the honor. He knows a hustler when he sees one. A charming sophisticated, Elliot is using the naive Jennifer to get at Beau’s money. In rage, Beau storms into Elliot’s office and smashes the scale model of Williamson City. He then drives out of the construction site and confronts the architect. The devious architect sees a way out. Elliot goes out to Beau’s horse farm and hides in the industrialists car. When Beau gets into the car, thinking he is alone, Elliot forces him at gun point into a nearby stable. A shot is heard.

Is that including commercials? Cuz on the DVD, it was only 73 mins (and it says that on IMDB too)

yes that's right. that columbo site is actually quite sloppy with several things. but some columbo episodes are in fact 90min (without commercials).
they have season 3 dvd release announcement still on the home page! season 4 comes out next month and no announcement! sloppy!

get the disc that has "murder by the book" should be disc 1 , it's the first regular episode directed by steven spielberg.

trivia: the woman "miss lasanka" who gets murdered in it, actually WAS murdered in real life. this isn't the only case of this either.
