My father was also in WW2, was one of the brave that stormed the beach at Normandy on D-Day, as well was stationed in Germany follwing WW2. He did not in anyway say any of it was fun. My dad ended up an alcholic and was diagnoised with Alzhimers and his last 10 years of life were not pleasent but whenver things got bad with him I always reminded myself of how brave he was and what an amazing thing he did. I hope to never have to go to war but I do understand that at times it is neccessary.

After burning atlanta, sherman headed to the sea, the good citizens of Savanah went to a leading business owner for help, she met the troops
outside the city, and offered free services for consideration in saving the
beautiful historic city. If refused her deal was no service at any price.
Sherman fearing a mutiny by his men and officers, accepted her terms.
Charleston worked a similar arrangement. The cities owe a lot to those
women providing that service. Unfortunately no one wants to teach this to kids in school.

@DiscoInferno, nuff said! I apologize for the misunderstanding on my part. It's not often I go off on that subject and I'm sorry I did so last night. I'm glad I didn't say anything nasty. And as far as brave, you got the wrong guy. We were just ordinary,scared kids over there. I'm even afraid of spiders and snakes!

@Chewy, I didn't know that about Sherman's march. Very interesting. I believe it was Patton who disapproved of his men doing the nasty before a battle as it drained a lot of their energy and they weren't in top form for the fight.
