    Members & guests ?

every time I look there always more guests then members look in to the forum, more then 10 times I think. Is it any way we can lower it down?

If people find what they are searching without need to subscribe to the forum probably they don't feel it necessary to subscribe.

'more guests than members' is bound to happen, nightran, as threads here are among the first links when googling anything related to digital video (and definitely dvdshrink)

anybody who clicks on a link is added as a guest. the referrals work to some extent, cynthia made around 200 IIRC

Also if you open up a new window as member - that new window will be as guest.

If you are already signed in and open up another session in your webbrowser - that new session will be as guest when you look at 'who's online'.

We need to allow "Guest" to browse/search without registering or paying. (without that, this forum as we know it probably wouldn't be here.)

Digital Digest "Forums" is only a small part of "Digital-Digest.com".

by session, you mean another window in the browser? (which browser are you using?) i thought cookies would kick in, and you would be signed in automatically each time you visit digital-digest, until you sign out or you clear cookies. i use firefox, i logged in once, checked the 'remember me' box, and have not needed to log in for months, no matter how many browser windows are open

Anybody who's not logged in is a guest. Like anonymez mentioned, lots of people come from google and other search engines, and they are all counted as guests. There are also quite a few links from the main ddigest website to the forum (to particular guides, FAQs, downloads), so this adds to the number of guests as well.

I don't think limiting guest functions is a way to improve registration numbers, in fact, it may drive people away. Also, if limiting functions is the only way to get new members, then these members are probably not the sort that will hang around for a long time. Most forums that limit functions for guests do it because they have no new members signing up, or that the server load is too high when guests are doing searches. Right now, this forum gets around 50 new members per day (not a lot, compared to some other forums), but most of them don't stay around for too long anyway, hence the guest to members ratio.

I think alot of ppl browse as guests before becoming a member. check out the forum and what it has to offer etc. I came as a guest for a long time before registering.

Yeah, it's kind of intimidating to post at first. I've been poking around at CD Freaks, but haven't gotten the nerve to post yet.
