    Digital Cameras

Hey all, I got this camera for Christmas:

And I just wondered, is it a good camera, or should I return it and get a better one? I am not that knowledgable about cameras, so I am hoping some of you guys are. I know 4.1 Megapixels is good, not sure about the lens and stuff though.

Anyone have any better camera ideas (around $150)?

its a low-end, "point-and-shoot" camera, similar to mine (search the forum, i posted about it). seems fine to me, but i'd go with 6mp, its only ~US$50 more. it DOES make a difference. and you should definitely get some sort of photo editing software, low-end cameras tend to take bad shots. you could try the freeware 'GIMP', though photoshop is ideal...

        or This Nikon

this 4MP will be better then the 3200, and its in ur limit.

my cousin got 3200 it a nice camera for starters poor night shots unless u use night mode but then it should be on stand.

i say u should check canon and nikon and change urs from anyone of them.
Also XD is expensive of them all.

That looks nice too! Also, my dad has an extra XD card, so I wouldn't have to buy one. Note that the links do not neccisarily have to be from Wal-Mart's site... they can be from other stores, like Radio Shack or something. As long as it is not online-only, it is fine.

                  well, yes and no.

i'm quite satisfied with the picture quality, it is excellent. features are decent, (optical zoom is 3x, enough for me), very easy to use, nice LCD screen.

but the bad thing is most of the photos turn out crap, unless you take a minute or so tweaking for the correct settings, eg exposure/shutter/iso/focus, etc.

most photos will need retouching. got any image editing know-how? you're gonna need it

but keep in mind, its quite a cheap camera. overall, i myself am very happy with it, but i would be most dissatisfied if i couldn't do the neccessary retouching

i can post an example of a 'bad' pic taken with the camera, if you wish

That Pentax camera is nice... is there somewhere to buy it that is not online? I want to actually try the camera out at the store first.

I got a new camera for Christmas. I have a old Olympus C1 (D100 is the US). It is not very good anymore as it doesn't have a zoom and is only 1.3mpixel.

I used to have a excellent Sony camera which I miss. I also got a new laptop with a card reader built in including Sony Memory Stick Pro. I got a Sony S90 (4.1mpixel) and I am very pleased with it. It has a Carl Zeiss lens which is pretty much the best lens manufacturer you can get.

true thats why u see much less noice in sony camera's then other, my olympus though can produce nice 8x10 prints but by looking on monitor u can see fairbit of noise.

You can go to and camera/print shop to view cameras.

Keep in mind what you are really going to be using the camera for. That will make a big difference in your decision to buy. As a former photograper I have a couple of cameras in mind, but they are quite expensive.
