Microsoft: Windows XP Home: obsolete sooner than you expect !

When that day comes, XP Home users may feel left out in the cold, because they will no longer qualify for security updates, and will not be able to purchase support from Microsoft. Finding this situation somewhat alarming, I contacted Microsoft's representation to clarify the matter. A Microsoft spokesman relayed the following to me:

"For consumer products, security updates will be available through the end of the mainstream phase. For Windows XP Home Edition, there will be no security updates after 12/31/06." Regarding paid support for problems unrelated to security patches, I was told that "Users who want to continue to receive support after the Microsoft assisted and paid support offerings have ended may visit the Retired Product Support Options Web site."

Indeed. Although... I have never noticed any good in the security updates anyway... the only good one I ever installed was SP2. I wonder why they are so important anyway.

I was guessing Chewy was referring to that. Our on-site trainers computer got smacked with it, and none of the conventional fixes were able to get it. Luckily one of the IT people took it off. Bad thing was the infected computer was used for training, and would have porn ads popping up!

I say... reformatting is the way to go! I did that when eZula got me... I hate that program.. When u uninstall it, it leave a file called exdl.exe that just redownloads it! You can't delete it, so basically it is impossible to fully remove.

I am so thankfull that the only virus I got was very easy to get rid of (can't remember what it was called) and I just found a worm as well...other then that clean...knock on wood....

Boot to the windows xp cd and delete the c partition, I had my client
do it as I supervised and the next time his friends go where noone should go,
he's fixing it, course we updated nero and flashed his nec 3520 while
reloading it, left off the via 4 in 1 drivers, and like he says the computer's faster than ever now. He put a pasword on his account this time.
