Question about forum pages

Just curious, how come they only go back to page 3 or so? I know that one thread about setarip's retirement is on OT, but go back to page 3, the most recent is from not so long ago. Why does the forum just "chop off" all the old posts? You actually gotta search then, not just go to OT and browse.

If you go to user cp and click options you will find this:

I think its all archived seeing the number of posts, which is good, but its for the admin to decide on that, probably there are some other factor also, which we are unaware about and dont need to know also.
