As you get to the higher grades, I am sure your history and geography will expand to include other parts of the world.
As for 80's rock, every city, even Detroit, has 80's stations. My kids even prefer them. You might like to go look up the history of Motown - it is full of brilliant artists who, indelibly, stamped their own part on rock history.
