Ft. McMurray I think is the spot ......
A shortage of skilled labor adds to the problems. "Just getting people here, keeping them here and keeping them happy is a big part of the competitive edge," Camarta said. "We're out here in the Canadian north, where it's cold and dark half the time, and we're pulling off one of the world's biggest projects."
I know Calgary and Edmonton is smokin .... know folks that went up there for 80-90 per hour CND ...... mucho denero !
Too cold for me, had my fair share of shoveling snow ..... done with that. There's a reason why all the malls are interconnected in Calgary, cold as $*%& .... guess if you grew up there ur use to it ......
Plus there's the TAX issue, 40-50% income taxes.Comment

@AlienX69, just out of curiosity, have you ever used Rhino, it is a NURBS, (Non Uniform RB Splines) CAD program. I used it to design my Barn and also a recumbent trike I built, and a recumbent 2 wheeler and varous bits of furniture.. I just ask because I am presently disabled with a Spinal Injury and am quite uninsurable. I have been curious about possibly taking a CAD course and wanted to know if you might have any recommendtions. Anything I do will have to be on a self employed, contractual basis. I was a machinist for 15 years and did a lot of CNC programming/tooling. I have a small machine shop in my house with Mig/Tig welders small milling machine, metal lathe etc.....so I am thinking about doing small prototyping. Just looking for input of any sort.Comment

Do you have the mobility to go to an office environment or are you speaking of working from home.
Many contract jobs out there but in most cases that is for individuals with current experience.
If you have the ability to work in an office then you could look thru the local classifieds. Look for entry level CAD positions ?
Also as well you can look at Monster.com, search on CAD
I know that some eng firms are allowing individuals to work from home via networking. This is due to not being able to acquire LOCAL help. In most cases its someone that has already worked for them. I know of a PDS Designer that was able to work from home. But he previously worked for the company and he was very experiences. Wish I could give you more ...
Last, I have not used the progy you mentioned, most of my years have been on MicroStation and Intergraph's Plant Design software.

I am working out of my home though most would describe what I do a "hustling". I have a small machine shop and a mig and tig welder plus a lot of carpentry tools so I do and make whatever I need. I was hoping to expand this on a small basis . Not much mobility though my problem is neurological so I just don't know when my neck and back are going to give out. I'll just have to continue plodding thru.Comment
