I got a Harmony remote for my parents a few months ago and they can actually use it. I gave them an Marantz RC5000 before, but programming it was labor intensive. With this remote, if my parents get a new piece of equipment, reprogramming is a breeze. With the RC5000, I would have to put a lot of work into it, although admittedly it is sexier. I'm using the RC5000 now. The harmony is great for people who don't want to program remotes. The main thing is that it's activity based which makes a lot of sense and is the way I always set up the RC5000. Heck, you can't beat it for the price.

@ TNT, if you bought it a few months ago, do you update the software & the firmware for them or do they do it themselves? the only reason why I ask is when I was getting it set up on the weekend, I updated the software twice & firmware once from what I installed. just thought I should let you know.

I haven't updated since I set it up for them. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I did alot of research on portable DVD before getting this one. Well worth the 250+USD, I paid a little more a few months ago, but it was still worth it. Great unit, picture and battery duration.

Just counted again and only have 18. I gave a couple of DVD players away.

Thanks for the info AlienX69 but for what I need it for I am going to wait just a little bit more, it did interest me though.

@ nwg, you are definitely the king. I think the max the one I got handles is either 12 or 15. If I counted the whole house we might just match you on remotes. 5 TV's, 3 PS2's, 4 VCR's, 3 DVD Players, 2 Digital Cable Boxes, 1 Home Theatre Receiver, 1 Stereo, 1 Air Conditioner.

All those remotes are for just for one room. I can add another 6 if I include other rooms. Most of my remotes are for this lot.

(Includes a scart switchbox in the middle without a remote because the dog ate it).

surely a few of those are redundant?

@ nwg, you were right, you need one in the worst way, maybe 2 or a bigger model than I got. One of the things you can do with this is head to head transfer but I don't know if it would work dog to head transfer (LOL). Seriously though all you need is the manufacturer & model#.
