Was it not the same issue with XP? I think I remember a picture where someone hold a version of a cd in front of the download timer for where the official release date was downcounted.

Back when XP was released, I was first getting involved in to computers, so I really don't know.

That reminds me of back when I was beta testing MS-DOS 5.0. I built a custom system for my aunt and put the beta on it to test that hardware configuration. Well I forgot to reformat the thing and shipped it out of state. When she got the computer she called me up yelling! “Hey my system admin is telling me there is no such thing as MS-DOS 5.”
