Creeping Moses

Does anyone know where the name "Creeping Moses" comes from? I assume it's biblical or something, and there may even be a plant with that name. It's something to do with slow movement I think.

I would just like to know it's origins.

I searched google and wiki, but detailed results are scarce.

My Jewish parents used the expression "Creeping Moses" (Jew) as a derogatory nickname for someone who popped up here and there, unwanted and with unknowingly malicious intent. An example would be at a party and some old lady calls herself helping out and begins to collect champagne glasses to wash. The only thing is she keeps breaking them in various ways. You try to sit her down and busy her with some other task, but she begins to warm rolls, turning the oven on too high and starting a fire. After several episodes of messing-up the party, she is dubbed "Creeping Moses." The expression has origins with the plant nicknamed "Creeping Jew" - an invasive vine.
