Merry (white) Christmas from Portland, OR/ WA State

Merry Christmas from Portland, OR/Vancouver, WA metro area.

It's a very rare white Christmas today.
After about a week of sub-freezing temperatures and light snowfall, Portland/Vancouver and the rest of the Northwest had a record snow storm on SAT Dec 20th. Anywhere from 12 to 26 inches fell in one day. I measured 17 inches at my house in east Vancouver. It's very rare to have ANY snow in December, or on Christmas, but this time we got historic amounts. It's Christmas day and it finally warmed above freezing but we're still getting snow showers and there's about a foot on the ground. We only needed 1.5 inches to beat the record for snow cover on Christmas. This is the most snow on the ground EVER recorded in Portland in December.

I was hoping to hear from others having a white Christmas. Even if it's not rare or historic, or record-breaking like ours is.

Sound off, telling us where you are, and how much snow you have on the ground.

    Merry Christmas!

For the first time since 1971, the whole of Canada is celebrating a white Christmas. Merry Christmas from the Alberta part.

How you doing as far as snow down in chicago? Hell, it's suppose to get up in the 40's and rain for the next couple of days here in Milw, WI and they are talking about flooding when this 20+" of snow starts melting like crazy. I thought last year was bad, hell this really sucks!

Not that bad with snow, the problem is all the ice that we got. My driveway is all ice. I am thing of going to get a propane weed burner and use it to melt the ice on the driveway.

With the weather warming up for a bit, a good heavy salting should clear it up pretty good. If all else fails try some beet juice. LOL

I heard about that several years ago, but did know that it is in use now.

About 2 pm on Christmas day we got another 2 inches in just one hour, adding to the already record snow. It's pretty much (finally) over now, with temperatures around 38 F. we are slowly thawing.

It is now 45 in the Chicago area. Waiting for the thunder storms. Got about half of the drive done. The sob snow plow drive piled the ice and slush at the entrance. It was 3 feet high. My car got stuck, had to use a shovel to break up the ice. I am waiting for tomorrow it is going to be in the mid 50's. That will get the rest of the drive way to melt.

We had a bit of snow here and there. But it was still a wonderful Christmas ...

As long as you kids enjoyed it. How are they doing. Hopefully that are adjusting to their move. Do they like the new school. We are now under a fog advisory and the tempter is now up to 50 degrees.

The kids and I are so happy here, thank you!

I bought a 4 wheel drive Pathfinder and had a friend teach me to drive in the snow and ice. We have a lot of ice in our neighborhood because we're in the shadow of the Rockies.

The kids are doing great in school. And there are typically 5 or 6 kids here playing on the weekends ...

I help my aunt out fixing things around the house for her and help my cousin with his young family. I love to cook so I am always running dinner over for them ... lol

Here's one of the deer that like to come by the house and one of my backyard after a small snowfall.

That second picture looked like we did last week. That is good that the kids are having so much fun. Our chimney for the furnace was partially blocked causing the furnace to shut down. Would not run no longer that 35 minutes. Had to turn down the thermostat so that the furnace would run no longer than 35 minutes.
