    OEM's mmmmm?????

Ok, Ive used the different OEM's and am still not really happy with any of them. Ive gone from Win95 to Win98 SE, then to WinME. I also tried NT 4.0, but that didnt last long. So, what do you all think? Tell me what you think of WINxp. Is it worth a shot? Is it Direct X Compaitable? Will my Win 98 Progs run on XP? One thing I didnt like about ME was all the crapp that ran in the background. Does this happen with XP as well?? Is XP a pain to install? mmm, Im not sure.. Maybe someone can let me know what they think..

Tell me what you think of WINxp.
Win2K, but with more colours and BLOATWARE (Annoying messenger, for example).

    Is it worth a shot?
Many will like it and many won't. The reasons vary greatly and I won't list them out here. The decision is actually up to you. You have to try it to find out whether you like it or not.

    Is it Direct X Compaitable?
It comes pre-installed with DirectX 8.0 (or is it 8.1?). The question should be asked to yourself,'Are my components, esp. the graphics card, Direct X compatible?' For 3D accelerators, cards below the GeForce 3 series and ATI Radeon 8500 don't support DirectX 8 via their hardware. Even the GeForce4 MX only partially supports DirectX 8 via software emulation.

Will my Win 98 Progs run on XP?
Most will run. The DOS-mode programs are very unlikely to run though. Fortunately, we have the feature called dual-boot.

One thing I didnt like about ME was all the crapp that ran in the background. Does this happen with XP as well??

Is XP a pain to install?
Not at all. It has the most user-friendly and nice-looking installation presentation I've ever seen for Windows. It does take longer to install than other though.
