trouble with VirtualDub

I have riped LOTR so the kids can watch it on the computer and not ruin the originl ripped it with Clad and converted it with DVD2AVI that encoded to divx 5.02 but i cant get vitual dub to join the files into a readable format. I chose the same compression (is it trying to compress it twice) any suggetions would be greatfully recieved

To join the DivX-compressed .AVI files using VirtualDub, set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copy" - DO NOT attempt any compression as it's not necessary...

thanks ill try that, the files are ok because i can make an mpeg out of them
