avi to DVD vertical hold flipping

I have had probs with avi movies when I use MYDVD to make DVD's from them...
Not only does it take 3 + hours per dvd(x2) the movies roll vertically on the tv!!!!!!! Like the vertical hold is off.....anyone???????
