    ifo question

    aloha-
i've been making dvd's for about 4 months now. mostly home and promo stuff. i'm burning off of a tdk dvd+-rw onto 1x dvd-r's. it was a given that all the stuff that i burned wouldn't play on my old apex. one day after backing up a regular movie(store bought dvd) and burning it to a dvd-r, i threw it in the old apex(it's not supposed to play dvd-r's) and it loaded and played the movie!

now the question: what made the difference? is there something in the ifo files that told the player to load up the first menu? anyone got any ideas?

    much

    very interesting!
a newbie myself but I gather the +-R/RW incompatibility with certain writers/players stem from a more hardware led problem, laser sensitivity - probably wrong technical term.
Some writers, mine included, have a firmware update that specifies support for particular manufacturers of media. In my case the upgrade has not allowed me to write (NEC 1300 writer / Princo DVD-R)
This isn't a learning curve ... this is b****y mountaineering!

well, both the promo's that i encoded/authored with my system and the ripped movie, were burned with the same burner. only the ripped movie not the other stuff plays on the old apex player. the difference between the two was that one was authored by myself...could the laser sensitivity be a factor?.... thanks
